A Conversation Unleashed

Part 9

The next morning, Ender bounced out of the house, eager to start his day at preschool. Ashley watched him go, feeling a mix of emotions as she thought about the conversation they had the night before. She hoped that Ender wouldn't be too curious about her port, but as she was getting ready for the day, she couldn't shake off the feeling that he might say something to his teacher or his friends. As it turned out, Ender was bursting to share his newfound knowledge with everyone. At preschool, he gathered his friends around him, his eyes shining with excitement. "Guys, guys! My mommy has a special door in her chest!" he announced, pointing to his own chest. The other children looked at him in confusion, and Ender's teacher, Mrs. Thompson, raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean, Ender?" she asked, trying to clarify. Ender launched into a detailed explanation of Ashley's port, using simple terms to describe how it worked. Mrs. Thompson listened attentively, her expression growing more serious by the minute. After Ender finished talking, Mrs. Thompson smiled and said, "Wow, Ender, that's a great job explaining something complicated! I'm sure your mommy appreciates your help." But as the day went on, Mrs. Thompson couldn't shake off the feeling that she needed to talk to Ashley about Ender's revelation. She made a mental note to pull Ashley aside after school. As the preschool day drew to a close, Mrs. Thompson gathered her things and waited for Ashley to arrive. When Ashley walked into the classroom, Mrs. Thompson smiled and said, "Ashley, can I talk to you for a minute?" Ashley followed Mrs. Thompson to a quiet corner of the classroom, feeling a sense of trepidation. "Is everything okay?" she asked. Mrs. Thompson hesitated before speaking. "Ender told the class about your port today. He seemed to understand it really well, but I wanted to check in with you and make sure you're okay with him sharing that information." Ashley felt a mix of emotions: surprise, gratitude, and a hint of embarrassment. "I'm glad Ender felt comfortable enough to share that with his class," she said. "It's not always easy to talk about this stuff, but I think it's great that he's being open and honest." Mrs. Thompson nodded, looking relieved. "I completely agree. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of what had happened and that you're okay with it." Ashley smiled, feeling grateful for Mrs. Thompson's sensitivity. "Thank you for checking in with me. That means a lot."
