"Beyond the Darkness"
Part 18
Kody's voice was cold and detached as he spoke, "They're dead." He picked up the two tiny bodies, cradling them in his arms as he gazed at them with a mixture of curiosity and concern. Ashley's heart shattered into a million pieces as she heard his words, but she couldn't muster up the energy to react. She lay there, helpless and bound, as Kody carefully examined the babies. He checked their pulses, their breathing, and their tiny features, his expression unreadable. For a moment, Ashley thought she saw a flicker of sadness in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a cold, calculating gaze. Kody's hands moved gently as he placed the babies on a counter, their tiny bodies lying side by side. As Kody turned away from the counter, Ashley caught a glimpse of her botched operation. The stitches were uneven, the skin torn and bruised. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her, but it was quickly suppressed by the medication coursing through her veins. Kody began to clean up his surgical kit, his movements methodical and precise. Ashley lay there, her eyes fixed on the babies, her heart heavy with grief. She had to find a way to save them, to revive them, but she was trapped and helpless. Kody's actions had left her in a state of shock, and she couldn't think clearly. All she could do was stare at the counter, willing her babies to move, to breathe, to live. As the minutes ticked by, Kody finished cleaning up and turned his attention to Ashley. He approached her, his eyes cold and unfeeling, and began to remove the gag from her mouth. Ashley gasped for air, her throat dry and sore. "You're going to need to take care of yourself," Kody said, his voice devoid of emotion. "I'll be back to check on you later." With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Ashley alone with her dead babies. Ashley's eyes filled with tears as she gazed at the counter, her heart breaking into a million pieces. She had to find a way to escape, to save her babies, but for now, she was trapped in this nightmare, at the mercy of a monster who seemed to take pleasure in her suffering. The darkness closed in around her, and Ashley felt herself slipping away, lost in a sea of despair.
