**Chapter 12: A Promise of Forever**
Part 12
As Emily walked through the quiet village, she stumbled upon Alexander Hamilton, who was pacing back and forth in front of a large map spread out on a wooden table. His eyes lit up as he saw her, and he quickly beckoned her over. "Emily, I need to speak with you," he said, his voice low and urgent. "The final battle is approaching, and I have news that Will's regiment will be part of the assault on Yorktown." Emily's heart skipped a beat as she felt a sense of dread wash over her. She had known this day was coming, but she had tried to push it to the back of her mind. "What does this mean?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. "It means that Will will be heading into the thick of the battle," Alexander replied, his expression grim. "I don't know what the outcome will be, but I do know that the stakes are high." As if on cue, Will appeared at Emily's side, his eyes scanning the horizon as if searching for something. Alexander cleared his throat and continued, "Will, I think you should know that the Battle of Yorktown is expected to be a turning point in the war. If we emerge victorious, it could be the end of the British occupation." Will nodded, his jaw set in determination. "I understand, Alexander. I'm ready to do my part." Alexander turned to Emily, his expression sympathetic. "Emily, I think you should know that Will will be leaving soon. He wanted to speak with you before he goes." Will took a step forward, his eyes locked on Emily's. "Emily, I have to go," he said, his voice low and husky. "But before I do, I want to ask you something." Emily's heart was racing as she nodded for him to continue. "Will you marry me, Emily?" he asked, his eyes shining with emotion. "If I come back from this battle, will you be my wife?" Emily felt a lump form in her throat as she looked at him. She didn't want to think about the possibility of him not coming back, so she said, "Don't say 'if you come back.' It's bound to happen, isn't it?" Will's face fell, but he asked again, his voice filled with hope. "Emily, please. Ignore what you just said. Will you marry me if I come back from this battle?" This time, Emily nodded, a smile spreading across her face. "Yes, Will. I'll marry you." Will's face lit up with joy as he pulled her into his arms. He kissed her, his lips warm and gentle. Just as they were lost in the moment, a soldier yelled out, "Hey! Lover boy, let's go!" Will chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and pulled away from Emily. "I have to go," he said, his voice smirking. "But I'll be back, Emily. I promise." With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Emily to watch him go with a heart full of love and a sense of hope for the future.
