"A Glimmer of Vulnerability"
Part 284
Dabi's expression had changed, if only for a moment, and it left me wondering if I had really seen it. Concern? Care? It was a far cry from the usual cold, calculating demeanor he displayed. I tried to process it, but my mind was still foggy from whatever had happened to me. Shigaraki's eyes flicked towards Dabi, his gaze lingering for a moment before returning to me. "We don't have time for this," he said, his voice tight with anxiety. "We need to get moving, now." I tried to sit up again, and this time, Dabi helped me, his arm wrapping around my back to support me. The room spun around me, but he held me steady, his grip firm. As I looked up at him, I couldn't help but ask, "What happened to you to be so…nice?" The words tumbled out before I could stop them, and I immediately regretted them. Dabi's expression froze, his eyes narrowing slightly as he regarded me. For a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of something there, something that looked almost like hurt. But it was quickly replaced by his usual mask of calmness. "I'm not being nice," he said, his voice cold and detached. "I'm simply trying to ensure that you remain in a condition to be of use to us." I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. That sounded more like the Dabi I knew, but for a moment, I could have sworn I saw something else there. Shigaraki's voice cut through the tension, his words urgent. "Dabi, we really need to go. The heroes are closing in, and we can't risk being caught." Dabi nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "Yes, let's get moving." As he helped me to my feet, I stumbled, my legs weak beneath me. Dabi's grip on my arm tightened, holding me upright. Shigaraki led the way, his eyes scanning the surroundings as we moved through the dimly lit corridors. I stumbled along beside Dabi, my mind still foggy and my body weak. As we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed, that for a moment, I had glimpsed a different side of Dabi. But it was probably just my imagination, playing tricks on me. The corridors seemed to stretch on forever, twisting and turning through the darkness. I had no idea where we were or where we were going, but I knew I had to keep moving. Shigaraki stopped suddenly, his head cocked to one side. "Do you hear that?" he whispered. I strained my ears, and after a moment, I heard it too - the sound of footsteps, echoing through the corridors. "They've found us," Shigaraki said, his voice tight with fear. Dabi's grip on my arm tightened, his eyes locked onto mine. For a moment, I thought I saw something there, something that looked almost like... desperation. But it was quickly replaced by his usual calmness. "Let's go," he said, his voice low and urgent.
