"A Sudden Surprise"

Part 49

As I sat on the couch, trying to gather my thoughts and calm my racing mind, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my chest. The silence of my apartment seemed to close in around me, a reminder that I was alone, with only my thoughts to keep me company. I had just lost Oslo in the crowd, and I was still trying to process what had just happened. I thought about all the times Oslo had been there for me, all the times he'd offered a listening ear or a helping hand. Now, it seemed like he was the one who needed help, but he was pushing me away. I sighed, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over me. I knew that I couldn't just sit there, waiting for Oslo to come back to me. I had to do something, but I wasn't sure what. As I sat there, lost in thought, I began to replay our conversation in my head. What had Oslo been trying to tell me? What was going on with him? The questions swirled in my head, making it hard to think clearly. I thought about following him, but something held me back. Maybe it was the look in his eyes, the one that said he needed space. Or maybe it was just that I didn't know where to start. Just as I was starting to feel like I was going crazy, I heard a faint voice behind me. "Miss me?" I spun around, my heart racing, and that's when I saw him - Dabi, standing in the doorway with a sly grin spreading across his face. I hadn't even heard him come in, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as I realized how quietly he'd approached me. "Dabi, what are you doing here?" I asked, trying to sound calm despite the surprise and a little fear that had taken up residence in my chest. Dabi chuckled and took a step closer, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I could ask you the same thing," he said, his voice low and husky. "You look like you've lost your last marble." I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. What was Dabi doing here? And how did he know I was upset? I thought back to our last encounter, trying to remember if I'd said anything to him that would have given him a clue about my current state. But I couldn't recall anything. Dabi took another step closer, his eyes never leaving mine. "You know, I've been looking for you," he said, his voice dripping with sincerity. "I was starting to get worried." I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. What was Dabi's game? And what did he want from me? As I sat there, frozen in uncertainty, Dabi sauntered over to the couch and plopped down beside me. "So, tell me," he said, his voice casual, "what's going on?" I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But there was something about Dabi's expression that put me at ease. Maybe it was the concern in his eyes, or maybe it was just the way he smiled at me. Whatever it was, I found myself opening up to him, telling him everything about Oslo and our conversation. Dabi listened intently, his face growing more serious with each passing moment. When I finished, he nodded thoughtfully and leaned back against the couch. "I think I can help you," he said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "But first, you have to trust me." I looked at him warily, unsure of what to make of his offer. Could I trust Dabi? And what did he have planned? I didn't have any answers, but one thing was certain - my life was about to get a lot more complicated.
