"Love in the Time of Meteoric Misadventures"

Part 1

The meteor hurtled through the vast expanse of space, its rusty hull creaking and groaning as it adjusted to the stresses of its journey. Inside, Dave Ludo and Karkat VP, the infamous Sburb players, had settled in for a movie marathon of epic proportions. Their current selection? The sugary sweet, cringe-worthy romcom, "The Wedding Planner." Dave leaned against the wall, his eyes fixed on the screen as he mouthed the clichéd lines along with the characters. Karkat, on the other hand, was sprawled out on the floor, his legs splayed out at awkward angles as he devoured a bag of freeze-dried snacks. As the movie's lead actress gushed about her undying love, Dave let out a snort of derision. Karkat turned to him, a mischievous glint in his eye, and mouthed, "Shut up, Dave." Dave chuckled and playfully rolled his eyes, their gazes meeting for a fleeting moment before Karkat looked away. The movie continued to unfold its predictable plot, but Dave's attention wandered. He found himself stealing glances at Karkat, who was oblivious to his scrutiny. The dim lighting of the meteor's interior highlighted the sharp angles of Karkat's face, making him look like a work of art carved from the very shadows themselves. Dave's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met again, this time holding for a fraction of a second longer. As the romcom's lead couple shared a saccharine kiss, Karkat sighed and tossed his snack bag aside. He leaned back against the wall, his shoulder brushing against Dave's. The proximity sent shivers down Dave's spine, but he didn't move away. Instead, he let out a soft sigh and rested his head against the wall, his sunglasses slipping down his nose. Karkat's gaze drifted to Dave's face, and his heart stuttered. For once, Dave had removed his sunglasses, revealing the piercing blue of his eyes. Those eyes, usually hidden behind a layer of reflective lenses, sparkled with a quiet vulnerability, drawing Karkat in like a moth to a flame. Without thinking, Karkat leaned in, his lips brushing against Dave's in a gentle, exploratory kiss. The world around them melted away, leaving only the thrum of the meteor's engines and the beating of their own hearts. Dave's eyes fluttered closed as he surrendered to the kiss, his lips parting to allow Karkat's tongue to dance within. The sensation sent shivers down his spine, and he wrapped his arms around Karkat, pulling him closer. As they broke apart for air, Karkat's face went pale, panic setting in. What had he just done? Had Dave even wanted that? The questions swirled in his mind like a maelstrom, but before he could voice them, Dave's eyes locked onto his, and he was lost in their depths. Dave's face was inches from Karkat's, his voice barely above a whisper. "Karkat..." He trailed off, his lips curving into a gentle smile as he leaned in for another kiss, this one more urgent, more possessive. The romcom still played on the screen, but its dialogue was drowned out by the pounding of their hearts, and the meteor, once a lonely wanderer in the vastness of space, had become a tiny, isolated universe of its own, spinning out of control.
