"Under the Spell of Curiosity"
Part 5
As the night drew to a close, Jay gratefully climbed into bed, feeling the softness of the mattress envelop him. He was exhausted from the long day and was looking forward to a good night's sleep. Just as he was starting to drift off, he heard the door creak open and Judd's footsteps approached. Jay sat up, confused, as Judd walked over to the bed and sat down beside him. "Hey," Judd said, his eyes shining with an intensity that made Jay feel a little uneasy. "Hey," Jay replied, trying to sound casual despite the sudden presence of his host. Judd didn't seem to notice Jay's wariness, or maybe he just chose to ignore it. He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, and asked, "So, Jay, tell me about yourself." Jay raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the sudden interest. "What do you want to know?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant. Judd's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Everything. I want to know about your life, your interests, your passions. What makes you tick?" Jay shrugged, feeling a little self-conscious under Judd's intense gaze. "I don't know, I guess I'm just a normal guy. I like playing video games, watching movies, hanging out with friends." Judd's eyes lit up. "Really? What kind of video games do you like?" Jay smiled, feeling a little more at ease. "I'm a big fan of RPGs. I love getting lost in a good story and exploring new worlds." Judd nodded enthusiastically. "That sounds awesome. I've always been a fan of sci-fi myself. Have you played any of the Star Wars games?" Jay grinned. "Yeah, I've played a few of them. I love the storyline and the characters." As they talked, Judd's questions became more and more probing, but Jay found himself opening up to him in ways he hadn't expected. He told Judd about his love of reading, his favorite books and authors, and even his dreams for the future. Judd listened intently, his eyes never leaving Jay's face. He asked follow-up questions and made thoughtful noises, showing Jay that he was genuinely interested in what he had to say. As the conversation flowed, Jay found himself feeling more and more at ease with Judd. He began to see his host in a new light, as someone who was not just intense and brooding, but also curious and genuinely interested in getting to know him. As the night wore on, Jay realized that he had been talking for hours, and Judd had been listening with rapt attention. He felt a sense of gratitude towards Judd, for taking the time to listen and for showing such genuine interest in his life. As he lay back down in bed, Jay felt a sense of wonder at the strange and unexpected turn of events. He had come to this house expecting a simple dinner and a night's stay, but instead, he had found himself drawn into a world of curiosity and connection with Judd.
