A Quiet Afternoon with Evan
Part 83
As the hours slipped by, Ashley and Evan chatted about everything and nothing, enjoying each other's company. They talked about their favorite books, movies, and TV shows, and Ashley found herself laughing and feeling carefree for the first time in weeks. When they finally parted ways, Ashley felt rejuvenated and refreshed. She made her way to the school to pick up Alex, hoping that he had had a good day. As she walked into the school, Ashley was greeted by the familiar sight of children milling about in the hallway. She made her way to the classroom, her heart filled with anticipation. When she opened the door, she was greeted by the smiling face of Alex's teacher, Mrs. Johnson. "Hi, Ashley," Mrs. Johnson said, smiling. "Alex had a great day today. He's been working hard and has made some wonderful progress." Ashley's heart swelled with pride as she heard the positive report. She smiled and thanked Mrs. Johnson, then turned to Alex, who was standing by his desk, his backpack slung over his shoulder. "Hey, buddy," Ashley said, smiling. "How was your day?" Alex grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "It was great, Mom," he said. "We did a fun art project and I got to play with my friends at recess." Ashley smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. It sounded like Alex had had a great day, and she was grateful for that. She helped him gather his things and they headed out of the classroom, ready to start their journey home. As they walked out of the school, Ashley couldn't help but think about dinner. She had planned to make something simple, but she was worried that Alex might not cooperate. With his unpredictable moods, it was always a gamble. But she was determined to make it a peaceful evening, for everyone's sake. "Hey, Alex," Ashley said, as they walked down the street. "What do you think about pizza for dinner tonight?" Alex's face lit up, and Ashley's heart skipped a beat. Maybe, just maybe, this would be a calm and peaceful evening after all.
