**The Shadows of Deceit**
Part 3
As the words "it might be personal" hung in the air, Lady Victoria's mind reeled with questions. She looked at Dr. Gray, her eyes searching for answers. "Why try to slit my throat?" she asked, her voice still hoarse from the attack. Dr. Gray's expression turned thoughtful, and he leaned back in his chair. "That's what the police are trying to figure out," he said. "But I have to admit, I'm curious too. You're a prominent figure in society, Lady Victoria. You have many acquaintances, but I'm sure you also have your fair share of enemies." Lady Victoria shook her head, her long blonde hair rustling against the hospital pillow. "I don't know of anyone who would want to hurt me," she said, her brow furrowed in concern. "I mean, I'm a bit of a socialite, but I try to be kind to everyone I meet." Dr. Gray's eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense. "It's not just about being kind or not," he said. "Sometimes, people are targeted for reasons they can't control. It could be something you have, something you're involved in, or even something you're related to." Lady Victoria's thoughts turned to her family, her title, and her wealth. Could it be one of those things that had put her in danger? She thought about her voice, her beautiful singing voice that had brought her so much joy and recognition. "Is it my voice?" she asked, her eyes wide with wonder. "Is someone jealous of my talent?" Dr. Gray's expression turned skeptical. "It's possible, but I think it's more complicated than that," he said. "The police are looking into your background, trying to find any connections or motives. But in the meantime, I think it's best if you stay here, under my care, until we can figure out what's going on." Lady Victoria nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Dr. Gray. She was glad he was on her side, and she hoped he could help her uncover the truth behind the attack. As she looked at him, she noticed a small, enigmatic smile playing on his lips. "What is it?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. Dr. Gray leaned forward, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I think there's more to your attack than meets the eye, Lady Victoria," he said. "And I think I'm the only one who can help you uncover the truth." Lady Victoria's heart skipped a beat as she met Dr. Gray's gaze. She felt a shiver run down her spine, and she wondered what secrets he might be hiding.
