"Uncertainty Unfolds"
Part 30
Twenty-eight weeks had brought a mix of emotions for Ashley and Ethan. The confirmation of their baby's heart condition and Down syndrome had been a heavy pill to swallow. They were still processing the news, trying to wrap their heads around the challenges that lay ahead. Ender, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to the gravity of the situation. He continued to excitedly await the arrival of his sister, chattering on about all the fun things they would do together. One evening, as they were cuddled up on the couch watching Ender's favorite movie, Ashley felt a sudden pang in her stomach. She winced, trying to brush it off as a minor cramp. Ethan noticed her reaction and turned to her with concern. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, putting his arm around her. Ashley nodded, smiling weakly. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little uncomfortable, I guess." Ender, engrossed in the movie, didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary. As the minutes ticked by, Ashley started to feel a growing pressure in her lower abdomen. It was a sensation she couldn't quite describe, but it was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. She shifted in her seat, trying to get comfortable, but it only seemed to intensify. Ethan noticed her squirming and asked again, "Ash, are you sure you're okay? You look a little pale." Ashley hesitated, not wanting to make a big deal out of it. "I'm fine, really. I just...I think I need to use the bathroom." Ethan nodded, helping her up from the couch. Ender, still engrossed in the movie, called out, "I'll be right back, Mommy!" as Ashley and Ethan made their way to the bathroom. As Ashley stood up, she felt a sudden gush of liquid. She looked down to see that she was bleeding. Her heart racing, she frantically pulled up her pants, trying to process what was happening. Blood stained her pants, and a wave of panic washed over her. Ethan's eyes widened in alarm as he saw the blood. "Ash, what's going on?" he asked, his voice laced with concern. Ashley's mind was racing, but she tried to stay calm. "I don't know," she replied, her voice shaking. "I think I might be...I don't know...having some kind of episode or something." Ethan quickly grabbed some tissues and helped Ashley clean up, his hands shaking slightly. "We need to call the doctor," he said, his eyes locked on hers. "Now." Ashley nodded, feeling a sense of unease wash over her. What was happening? Was everything going to be okay?
