Chapter 39: A Temporary Reprieve
Part 39
That's when Shigaraki pulled me closer to him and whispered, "You're lucky today, but don't worry, you'll get a surprise tomorrow." His breath sent shivers down my spine as he grinned, his eyes glinting with malevolence. I felt a chill run down my spine as his words hung in the air, leaving me with a sense of foreboding. Shigaraki's grip on my neck loosened, and he pushed me away, his eyes never leaving mine. I stumbled backwards, gasping for air as he turned to Kurogiri. "Let's fall back for now, it's game over," he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. Without hesitation, Kurogiri nodded and grabbed Shigaraki's arm. The two of them vanished into thin air, teleporting away from the scene. The sudden departure left us all stunned, unsure of what to do next. As the reality of the situation sunk in, Deku's face lit up with concern, and he rushed towards me. " Kacchan!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with relief. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me in a tight hug. I felt a wave of comfort wash over me as his warm arms enveloped me, and I buried my face in his shoulder, trying to process the events that had just transpired. The heroes stood frozen for a moment, unsure of how to react to Shigaraki's sudden retreat. All Might's eyes narrowed, his gaze fixed on the spot where Shigaraki and Kurogiri had disappeared. "We need to regroup and come up with a new plan," he said, his voice firm and resolute. "We can't let them get away that easily." Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist nodded in agreement, their faces set with determination. Aizawa-sensei, still rubbing his sore head, managed a wry smile. "Well, at least we're alive," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. As the heroes began to discuss their next move, Deku held me tightly, his grip unwavering. I could feel his heart racing against mine, and I knew he was just as shaken as I was. I wrapped my arms around him, holding him close, and we stood there for a moment, trying to find comfort in each other's presence. The sudden silence was a welcome respite from the chaos that had erupted earlier, but I knew it wouldn't last. Shigaraki's ominous warning still lingered in my mind, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that tomorrow would bring a new wave of terror. Deku's hug was a temporary shield against the darkness that loomed ahead, and I clung to it, savoring the moment of peace.
