**Chapter 1: A Spoonful of Sorrow**
Part 1
Mary Poppins stood at the window of her cozy little flat, gazing out at the drizzly London morning. She sniffled, dabbing at her nose with a lace handkerchief. A case of the sniffles, that was all it was. A minor nuisance, nothing more. But as she looked out at the gray skies, she couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. She had been planning a jolly outing with the Banks children all week, and now she wasn't so sure. "Ah, bother," she muttered to herself, blowing her nose with a delicate touch. "I'll not let a little thing like a cold keep me from my duties." She smiled, her eyes twinkling with determination. After all, as she always said, "In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and snap! The job's a game!" With renewed resolve, Mary Poppins set about getting ready for the day. She donned her iconic black hat and coat, and fetched her trusty umbrella from the stand. As she opened the door to leave, she was greeted by the cheerful face of her loyal companion, Ellen, the housekeeper. "Good morning, Miss Poppins!" Ellen exclaimed, eyeing Mary's red nose and watery eyes. "You look a bit...under the weather, if I may say so." Mary Poppins waved a dismissive hand. "Oh, I'm fine, Ellen. Just a bit of a sniffle. I'll be as right as rain in no time." She smiled brightly, trying to reassure the concerned housekeeper. Ellen nodded, though she looked unconvinced. "Very well, Miss Poppins. But do take care of yourself, won't you? The children are waiting for you at the Banks' household." Mary Poppins nodded, tucking her handkerchief into her pocket. "I'll be off, then. I have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day ahead of me, I just know it!" With a cheerful farewell, she floated out into the drizzly morning, umbrella in hand. As she made her way to Cherry Tree Lane, the sound of children's laughter and the scent of freshly baked toast wafted out of the Banks' household, beckoning her closer. Mary Poppins' heart swelled with excitement, and she quickened her pace. Despite her sniffles, she was ready to bring a spoonful of sugar – and a dash of magic – to the day. With a tap of her umbrella, she arrived at the Banks' residence, a warm smile on her face. But as she entered the cozy parlor, she was greeted by the anxious faces of Jane and Michael Banks. "Mary Poppins, you're...you're sniffling!" Jane exclaimed, concern etched on her face. Mary Poppins chuckled, her eyes sparkling. "Oh, my dear, it's just a little cold. Nothing to worry about. Now, shall we get started on our day? I have a feeling it's going to be a jolly good time..."
