The Weight of Decision
Part 108
Two weeks had passed since the conversation with Avan, and Ashley had been putting off the inevitable ever since. She had finally made the decision to go through with the abortion, and today was the day. As she sat in her car, parked outside Alex's school, she felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She took a deep breath and got out of the car, grabbing the papers she needed for the appointment from her bag. Ashley walked into the school and signed Alex in, trying to put on a brave face for her son's sake. He was oblivious to the turmoil that had been brewing inside her, and she was grateful for that. "Have a good day, sweetie," she said, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. Alex nodded and ran off to his classroom, leaving Ashley to head to Avery's daycare center. She dropped Avery off without incident, trying to distract herself from her growing anxiety by chatting with the daycare staff. But as soon as she was back in her car, the reality of what she was about to do hit her like a ton of bricks. Her hands were shaking as she drove to the clinic, her mind racing with thoughts of what was to come. The clinic was a nondescript building in a quiet part of town, and Ashley felt a sense of unease as she pulled into the parking lot. She took a few deep breaths and got out of the car, trying to steel herself for what was to come. As she walked into the clinic, she was greeted by a friendly receptionist who asked her to take a seat. Ashley sat down in the waiting room, surrounded by other women who were all there for the same reason. She felt a sense of solidarity with them, but also a sense of isolation. She was on her own in this, at least for now. Avan was at work, and she had insisted that he didn't take the day off. She needed to do this, and she needed to do it alone. As she waited, Ashley's mind began to wander back to the conversation she had with Avan two weeks ago. She had been so sure that this was what she wanted, but now she wasn't so sure. What was she doing? Was this really the right decision? The questions swirled in her head, making her feel dizzy and lightheaded. The receptionist called her name, and Ashley stood up, her heart pounding in her chest. She took a deep breath and walked down the hallway, her legs trembling beneath her. She was really doing this. She was really going through with it.
