Rebel Hearts
Part 1
The dimly lit streets of Montressor were always alive with the hum of alien spacecraft and the chatter of off-world travelers. For 15-year-old Jim Hawkins, it was just another day in a life that seemed to be constantly spinning out of control. His mother, Sarah, had always warned him about his rebellious streak, but Jim couldn't help himself. He was a magnet for trouble, and trouble was always finding him. As he walked down the main street, Jim's eyes landed on the "For Help Wanted" sign outside his mother's inn. A new face had just walked into town, and Jim couldn't help but notice her. X Ayres Le Sol, with her caramel skin, hazel eyes, and wild, curly honey brown hair with magenta highlights, was a vision of beauty that Jim had never seen before. Her "boho diva" style of dressing, complete with bangles and gold hoop earrings, made her stand out in a crowd. Ayres was a creole girl from Lyra, a planet where everyone possessed the ability to shift into a wild cat. She had recently moved to Montressor with her mom and big sister, and was trying to finish high school so she could attend the Interstellar Academy to study Astro-Anthropology and Astro-Botanical sciences. Ayres was a free-spirited, introverted high school student with a passion for learning and a love for adventure. Jim watched as Ayres approached his mother, her confident stride and quirky style drawing him in. He felt a spark of curiosity and decided to introduce himself. As he approached, Ayres looked up and caught his eye. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable. "Hey, I'm Jim," he said, trying to sound cool. Ayres smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm Ayres. I'm here to apply for the job." Jim's mother, Sarah, greeted Ayres warmly and began to show her around the inn. Jim tagged along, watching as Ayres effortlessly charmed his mother with her wit and charm. As they talked, Jim found himself feeling drawn to Ayres's confident attitude and quirky style. As the day wore on, Jim found himself stealing glances at Ayres, who was busy helping his mother with the afternoon chores. He couldn't help but notice the way her hair curled slightly at the nape of her neck, or the way her eyes sparkled when she laughed. As the sun began to set, Ayres finished her tasks and prepared to leave. Jim walked her out, feeling a sense of disappointment that their time together was over. "Hey, Ayres?" he said, as they stood outside the inn. "Yeah?" "Want to grab a drink with me later? I know this great spot that's got the best astro-shakes in town." Ayres raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "I'd love to." As they exchanged numbers, Jim felt a sense of excitement that he hadn't felt in a long time. He had a feeling that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't even imagine. Little did he know, Ayres was a stoner, and she had a habit of smoking marijuana. But Jim was fine with it, as he did too. They bonded over their shared love of adventure and rebellion, and their conversation flowed effortlessly. As they parted ways, Jim couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. He had a feeling that he and Ayres were going to have a wild ride together, one that would take them to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and back again. And as he watched Ayres walk away, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the adventures that lay ahead.
