Awkward Anticipations

Part 61

The moment I arrive home, Mother's phone starts ringing insistently. She gives a glance at the screen, smiles, and holds it out to me. "It's your friend, sweetie." I stare quizzically at the object, "We parted barely half an hour ago." She chuckles. "He must really like talking to you then, right?" I nod numbly and accept the call. Immediately Inasa's passionate voice floods into my eardrums. "(Y/N)-chan! I was thinking- couldn't All Might destroy the whole shop with a smaaaash before Best Jeanist can use any of the threads to his advantage? They're both very fast, but-" He goes on, ranting and ranting, his words pouring out in a rapid-fire succession. As I listen to Inasa's enthusiastic monologue, I start to feel a pang of guilt. What if I'm bothering him or his parents? What if they're in the middle of something important? I try to interject, but Inasa doesn't give me a chance to respond. In the background, I can hear Inasa's parents' voices, suggesting in hushed whispers to ask me "how are you" or "are you free right now" to avoid bothering me. But Inasa is too engrossed in his own speech, and he never replies. His parents try a few more times, but eventually, they give up with an exasperated sigh. I stand there, holding the phone, feeling a mix of emotions. Part of me is happy to be talking to Inasa, but another part of me is worried that I'm intruding on his family's time. I try to think of something to say, but before I can come up with a response, Inasa's voice continues to pour out of the phone. As I stand there, frozen in uncertainty, I realize that this is exactly what I was worried about. I'm so awkward sometimes, and I don't want to be a bother to Inasa or his family. But at the same time, I don't want to hang up on him either. I take a deep breath and try to gather my thoughts, hoping to respond in a way that won't make me sound too awkward.
