Shadows Within
Part 2
The flames of the common room's fire danced and swirled, casting eerie silhouettes on the walls as I sat, lost in thought. My book lay open, its pages fluttering in the warmth, but my mind was elsewhere. The image of Harry Potter lingered, like a ghostly presence that refused to be shaken. Why did he stir something within me, a spark that I couldn't quite extinguish? I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand: mastering the intricacies of Advanced Potion-Making. As I pored over the complex recipes and theoretical discussions, the door to the common room creaked open, admitting a chill of autumn air and a figure I hadn't expected to see. My father's protégé, Draco Malfoy, strode in, his blond hair perfectly styled, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of confidence and curiosity. He spotted me and raised an eyebrow, sauntering over to the empty chair beside me. "Octavia Snape, I see you're indulging in your usual pursuits," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Potion-Making, how...predictable." I raised an eyebrow, a hint of irritation sparking within me. "And what, might I ask, brings you to our humble common room, Malfoy?" I replied, not looking up from my book. Draco chuckled, settling into the chair. "I could ask you the same thing, but I think I already know the answer. You're avoiding the rest of us, as per usual." He leaned in, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I've been tasked with keeping an eye on you, Octavia. Your father's... interests are at stake." I closed my book, my eyes narrowing. "And what, exactly, do you think I need to be kept an eye on for?" Draco's smile grew wider. "Oh, just the usual. You're a Slytherin, through and through, but there's something about you, Octavia...a certain... unpredictability. Your father wants to ensure you stay on the right path." The right path. The phrase echoed in my mind, a reminder of the expectations placed upon me as a Snape and a Slytherin. I wondered what my father would say if he knew I had locked eyes with Harry Potter, and the strange, unsettling sensation that had followed. As Draco and I sat in silence, the fire crackling between us, I realized that this year would indeed be unlike any other. The shadows within Slytherin were stirring, and I was about to be drawn into a web of intrigue and deception that would test my loyalty, my wits, and my very heart. Little did I know, the darkness that lurked within the castle walls would soon be pulling me in, and nothing would ever be the same again.
