Racing Against Time
Part 88
The sound of sirens outside their window grew louder, and Avan quickly got out of bed to meet the paramedics. He grabbed the bag he had packed earlier, just in case, and followed behind the ambulance as it pulled up to their house. Ashley smiled weakly, feeling a sense of relief that help had arrived. As the paramedics rushed into the room, Avan turned back to Ashley and gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be right behind you," he said, trying to calm her down. "Just get comfortable and let them take care of you." Ashley nodded, feeling a sense of panic wash over her as the paramedics began to examine her. One of them, a kind-faced woman, smiled at her and said, "Don't worry, we're going to take good care of you and your baby." As they lifted Ashley onto the stretcher, Avan grabbed his bag and followed behind the ambulance, his heart racing with worry. He couldn't help but think about the possibility of their baby arriving prematurely, and what that could mean for their little family. In the ambulance, Ashley's panic began to set in. She looked over at the paramedics, her eyes wide with fear. "What if our baby doesn't make it?" she asked, her voice shaking. The paramedic who had spoken to her earlier put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We're going to do everything we can to make sure you and your baby get the best care possible," she said. "You're not alone, and we're going to get you through this." But Ashley's mind was already racing ahead, imagining all the worst-case scenarios. She glanced over at the paramedic's colleague, who was busy monitoring her vitals. "How long until we get to the hospital?" she asked. The paramedic checked his watch. "About 10 minutes, depending on traffic," he replied. Ashley closed her eyes, taking deep breaths as she tried to calm down. She could feel the contractions growing stronger, and she knew that time was of the essence. Meanwhile, Avan was following close behind the ambulance in their car, his heart racing with worry. He couldn't help but think about their little boy, Alex, who was waiting for them at home. Who would take care of him if something happened to Ashley or the baby? As he pulled up behind the ambulance at a red light, Avan felt a surge of anxiety. What if he lost the person he loved most in the world? What if their baby didn't make it? The light turned green, and Avan accelerated, following the ambulance into the hospital parking lot. He took a deep breath, trying to prepare himself for what lay ahead. They were about to face a challenge that would test their strength and love for each other.
