A Moment of Unexpected Concern

Part 48

As I walked back to the dorms, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and hope about my newfound connection with Shinso. I had just exchanged numbers with him, and I was looking forward to getting to know him better. As I entered my room, I pulled out my phone to check if I had any messages. I was greeted by a buzz on my screen, and my eyes widened as I saw that the message was from Monoma. "Are you ok? I heard about your parents… I'm sorry for what happened and to think that reporter thought that you would do that is horrible, that man should go to hell!" I was taken aback by the text. Monoma had never been this concerned for me before, and I was surprised by the level of empathy he was showing. I quickly typed out a response, trying to reassure him that I was fine. "Yea… I'm fine, don't worry about me." I hesitated for a moment before sending the message, wondering if I should be more open with him. But for now, I just wanted to brush it off. Monoma responded almost immediately, his text laced with a hint of warning. "Ok fine, but if I find out you're lying to me, I'm going to be pissed!" I couldn't help but giggle at the text, surprised by the softer side of Monoma that I was seeing. I put my phone down, still smiling, and looked around the room. Mina was sitting on her bed, looking at me with a concerned expression. "Hey, since we have 2 days off, want to have a sleepover tonight to get all of the sad stuff out of our minds?" she asked, and I could see the excitement in her eyes. I nodded enthusiastically, and Mina let out a whoop of excitement. "I'll go talk to the others!" she exclaimed, jumping off her bed and rushing out of the room. A few minutes later, Mina, Ochaco, and Tsu returned with a bunch of sleepover essentials - blankets, pillows, and a big banner that read "Sleepover Night!" in bold letters. We spent the next few hours setting up the room, laughing and chatting as we went. As we worked, Ochaco was bubbling with excitement, chatting about all the fun things we could do during the sleepover. Tsu was quieter, but I could see the hint of a smile on her face as she helped us set up. Mina, meanwhile, was busy making a big banner that read "I'm with stupid" with an arrow pointing to a picture of Kacchan that she had drawn. I couldn't help but laugh at the sight, feeling a sense of camaraderie with my friends. As the night drew in, we all settled in, ready to have a fun night and forget about our troubles. I snuggled under the blankets, feeling grateful for my friends and the distraction they were providing. Tonight, at least, I could forget about my parents and the reporters and just be myself.
