Unraveling Emotions
Part 13
Harry returned to the bathroom with a towel, and Hermione was sitting on the edge of the tub, her hair damp and her eyes red from crying. She took the towel from him and gently dried her face, her movements slow and deliberate. Harry sat down beside her, his arm wrapping around her shoulders as he pulled her close. "I'm so sorry, Harry," Hermione said, her voice muffled against his chest. "I feel like I'm always crying in front of you, and it's just so... embarrassing." Harry stroked her hair, trying to comfort her. "You don't have to apologize, Hermione. You're my friend, and I'm here for you." Hermione pulled back, her eyes searching his face. "I appreciate that, Harry. I really do." She took a deep breath, and her expression turned serious. "I wanted to talk to you about something. About Ron." Harry's curiosity was piqued. "What about Ron?" Hermione's response was immediate, almost too quick. "Of course, I love him. He's my best friend, and I've had feelings for him for a long time." Harry's eyes narrowed, his gaze intense. There was something about Hermione's answer that didn't feel genuine. He leaned in, his voice low. "Hermione, do you really love Ron? Be honest with me." For a moment, Hermione's mask slipped, and Harry saw a glimmer of desperation in her eyes. Then, her face crumpled, and she whispered, "No, I don't love Ron. I'd rather be second to you than be out of your life entirely." Harry felt a pang of guilt, realizing that Hermione felt like she was in a position where she had to choose between him and Ron. He pulled her into a tight hug, his heart aching for her. "Why didn't you say anything?" he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "I loved you too, Hermione. I was just too broken to see it. But Pansy... she showed me what love can be. And I realize now that I was blind to what was right in front of me." Hermione's body shook with sobs, and Harry held her close, trying to comfort her. He knew that he had to be honest with her, with himself, and with Pansy about his feelings. But for now, he just held Hermione, trying to make her feel safe and loved.
