"The Bleeding of Universes"
Part 33
Then suddenly the lesbian couple felt it. The pain in their throats, sharp and unrelenting, like a knife twisting in their skin. As if on cue, after Dr. Thompson's ominous warning about the multiverse, it happened. The pain intensified, and Alex and Sophia instinctively brought their hands to their necks, clutching at the skin as if they could somehow stem the bleeding. Dr. Thompson's eyes widened in concern as he watched the couple's reaction. "What's happening?" he asked, his voice laced with urgency. Alex and Sophia couldn't respond, their throats constricting with pain. They tried to speak, but their voices were hoarse and barely audible. Dr. Thompson quickly rose from his seat and approached them, his hands gently probing their necks. Sophia gasped as Dr. Thompson's fingers made contact with her skin. "What...what is it?" she stammered. Dr. Thompson's expression was grim. "I think it's happening," he muttered, his eyes scanning their necks. "The universes are bleeding together." As he spoke, Alex and Sophia saw their own reflections in the window of the café, and their eyes widened in horror. Their once beautiful necks now showed a few scars, starting to manifest like ghostly imprints on their skin. The wounds seemed to be healing, but the marks remained, a testament to the brutal violence that had been inflicted upon them in some other reality. Dr. Thompson's hands moved swiftly, examining the scars with a mixture of fascination and concern. "These are not just random injuries," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They're...they're the same wounds from the photographs." Sophia's grip on Alex's hand tightened, her eyes brimming with tears. "What does it mean?" she asked, her voice trembling. Dr. Thompson's face was set in a determined expression. "It means that the multiverse is trying to tell us something," he said. "The bleeding of universes is a sign that the boundaries between realities are breaking down. And if we don't find a way to stop it, the consequences will be catastrophic." As Dr. Thompson spoke, Alex and Sophia felt the pain in their throats begin to subside, replaced by a sense of unease and foreboding. They knew that their lives would never be the same, that they were now caught in a maelstrom of interdimensional chaos, with no clear escape in sight.
