Recovery and Reunion

Part 290

As I slowly opened my eyes, I was greeted by the warm sunlight streaming through the window, casting a gentle glow over the room. I felt a sense of clarity wash over me, and I realized that I was no longer feeling weak and dizzy. My body felt rejuvenated, and my mind was clear. I sat up, swinging my legs over the side of the bed, and looked around the room. Bakugo was no longer beside me, but I could hear the sound of running water coming from the bathroom. I got out of bed and walked over to the window, gazing out at the unfamiliar view. The cityscape stretched out before me, a mix of towering skyscrapers and quaint buildings. I couldn't help but wonder where we were. As I turned away from the window, I heard the door to the room open, and a figure walked in. Dabi, his usual stoic expression on his face, strode into the room, his eyes scanning the space before landing on me. "Ah, Vesper," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I see you're feeling better." I nodded, still trying to process my surroundings. "Yeah, I am. Thanks for...whatever you did." Dabi's expression didn't change, but I could sense a hint of amusement in his voice. "Bakugo took care of you. I'm just here to...observe." I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his response. "Observe?" Dabi nodded, walking over to the bed and sitting down on it. "Yes. Bakugo's been keeping you safe, but I have my own interests in you, Vesper. You're a valuable asset, after all." I felt a shiver run down my spine as Dabi's eyes locked onto mine. I wasn't sure what to make of him, but I knew that I had to be careful around him. Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Bakugo walked out, a towel wrapped around his neck. His eyes met mine, and a small smile played on his lips. "Ah, you're up," he said, walking over to me. "I see Dabi's here to...greet you." Dabi stood up, his eyes never leaving mine. "I'll leave you two alone for now," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "But don't think for a second that I won't be keeping an eye on you, Vesper." With that, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving Bakugo and me alone once again. Bakugo's smile faltered, and his expression turned serious. "Don't worry about Dabi," he said, his voice low. "He's just trying to get under my skin. But I won't let him get to you, Vesper. You're safe with me." I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. I knew that I could trust Bakugo, and that he would do everything in his power to keep me safe.
