A Moment of Solace

Part 33

Levi sat at his desk, staring blankly at the papers in front of him, but his mind was elsewhere. As he sat there, lost in thought, he heard a knock on the door, and he looked up to see Kenzy walking in, a look of concern etched on her face. "Hey," she said softly, her eyes scanning his expression. "I was starting to worry about you. You seemed really off at lunch today." Levi forced a smile onto his face, trying to reassure her that he was fine. But Kenzy wasn't buying it. She walked over to him, her eyes searching his face for any sign of what was wrong. "Baby?" she asked, her voice gentle. "Are you okay? You kept giving Jean the stink-eye all day, and I could tell you were distracted during the meeting." Levi raised an eyebrow, unsure of how to respond. He didn't want to admit his feelings to Kenzy, not yet, but he also didn't want to lie to her. "What's going on?" Kenzy asked, her voice soft and encouraging. Levi sighed, rubbing his temples. He couldn't keep this up, not with Kenzy. She deserved to know what was going on. "I'm just a little worried about Jean," Kenzy said, misinterpreting Levi's expression. "You know how he can be. He's always flirting with the girls, but I know he means no harm." Levi looked up at her, his eyes locking onto hers. "No, it's not that," he said softly. "I just...I don't know, I saw the way he was looking at you, and it made me feel weird." Kenzy's expression changed from concern to curiosity. "Weird? What do you mean?" Levi shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Never mind. I just need to focus on the mission ahead." Kenzy walked closer to him, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You're not going to start getting jealous, are you?" she teased. Levi's face went hot, and he looked away, trying to hide his emotions. "I'm not jealous," he muttered. Kenzy chuckled, a soft, gentle sound. "Oh, Levi," she said, her voice full of affection. "You're so easy to read." Levi raised an eyebrow, his face growing hot with embarrassment. "What are you talking about?" Kenzy smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm talking about the way you looked at Jean today. You were practically burning a hole in him with your stare." Levi's eyes snapped up to meet Kenzy's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Kenzy walked closer to him, her hand on his arm. "Levi, what's going on?" she asked softly. "You're scaring me." Levi took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts. He knew he had to talk to her about this, to be honest about how he was feeling. "Hey," he said softly, looking for a way to explain himself without revealing too much. "Can we talk about something?" Kenzy nodded, her eyes searching his face for any sign of what was bothering him. "Of course, we can talk. What's on your mind?" Levi hesitated, unsure of how to start this conversation. He knew that he had to trust Kenzy, to tell her how he really felt. But he was scared, scared of losing her or pushing her away. "I just...I don't know," he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper. "I feel like I'm losing you, like you're slipping away from me." Kenzy looked at him, her eyes searching his face for any sign of what was wrong.
