**Chapter 63: Healing in the Shadows**
Part 63
Six months had passed since that fateful day, and Ashley's life had changed in ways she never could have imagined. The hospital room was now a distant memory, replaced by the familiar surroundings of a therapist's office. Dr. Lee, a kind and understanding woman with a warm smile, sat across from Ashley, nodding as she listened to her thoughts and feelings. Ashley had made progress, but it was slow. The restraints were gone, replaced by a newfound sense of freedom, but the emotional shackles still lingered. She had been diagnosed with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and her journey to recovery was ongoing. Therapy sessions, medication, and support groups had become her new reality. As she sat in the office, Ashley couldn't help but think about Ryan. It had been six months since he passed away, and the pain still lingered. She missed him every day, but she had learned to live with the ache in her heart. Erica had been a rock for her, supporting her through the darkest of times. Dr. Lee leaned forward, her eyes locked on Ashley's. "How have you been feeling lately, Ashley? Any improvements?" Ashley took a deep breath, reflecting on the past few weeks. "I've been better, I think. I've been attending group therapy sessions, and I've started to connect with some of the other patients. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this." Dr. Lee nodded, making a note on her pad. "That's wonderful progress, Ashley. You're learning to cope with your emotions and find support in others. That's a huge step forward." Ashley smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had come a long way since that hospital room, and she knew she still had a long way to go. But for the first time in months, she felt a glimmer of hope. As the session came to a close, Dr. Lee handed Ashley a small piece of paper. "I want you to try something new this week, Ashley. I want you to write a letter to Ryan. Not to send, but to process your emotions and work through your grief. Can you do that for me?" Ashley took the paper, feeling a mix of emotions. She had thought about writing to Ryan before, but she had never mustered the courage. This time, she felt different. This time, she felt ready. As she left the office, Ashley felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was healing, slowly but surely. And with Dr. Lee's guidance, she knew she could face whatever shadows lay ahead.
