Settling into Comfort

Part 28

As they sat down to eat, Erica began to chat with Ashley, occasionally rubbing her bump as they caught up. Harry joined in, doing the same, and Ashley couldn't help but smile at the display of affection. The conversation flowed easily, and they talked about everything and nothing, enjoying each other's company. As they chatted, Harry suddenly piped up, "Ashley, did you go to Warren Hill on Jersey?" Ashley nodded, a smile spreading across her face. "Yeah," she said, and Harry's eyes lit up. "Class of 2012, me too!" he exclaimed. Ashley's eyes widened in recognition, and she giggled. "You're Ashley from my high school days!" Erica laughed, and her best friend and husband began to reminisce about old times. As they talked, Harry's curiosity got the better of him. "What kind of cancer did you have?" he asked, his tone playful. Erica playfully punched him. "Shut up, don't ask that," she said, laughing. Ashley shook her head and smiled. "It's fine," she said. "I don't mind." As they continued to eat, Ashley pushed the pizza away after taking one bite. She was still getting used to food after months of treatment, and the taste and smell of the pizza was overwhelming. Erica noticed and put a gentle hand on her arm. "Hey, don't worry about it," she said. "Take your time." Ashley smiled, feeling grateful for her friend's understanding. As they sat there, Harry turned to Ashley and said, "You know, I'm really glad you're staying with us. It's going to be great having you around." Ashley smiled, feeling happy to be with people she loved. "I'm glad to be here," she said, and Erica nodded in agreement. The evening wore on, and they continued to chat and laugh together. Ashley felt like she was finally starting to feel at home, and she knew that she was in good hands with Erica and Harry. As they settled in for the night, Ashley felt a sense of comfort and peace wash over her, and she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be.
