"The Darkening of the Forest"

Part 15

As Scorch and Sir Valoric stood panting, surveying the aftermath of the battle, they couldn't shake off the feeling that they had just faced a mere skirmish, a precursor to a far greater challenge. The forest was quiet once more, the only sound the distant chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. But Scorch's instincts were screaming at her that something was off, that they were being watched. Suddenly, a chorus of guttural cries echoed through the forest, and a new wave of goblins emerged from the underbrush. This time, however, they were not alone. A goblin mage, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly energy, stood atop a nearby rock, its staff crackling with dark magic. A goblin archer, perched high up in a tree, took aim at Scorch and Sir Valoric, its bowstring humming with tension. The goblins charged, their movements frenzied and chaotic, but Scorch and Sir Valoric could sense a new level of coordination, a sense of purpose that they had not seen before. And then, a massive orc emerged from the trees, its massive frame towering over the goblins. Beside it stood a dark mage, its eyes blazing with malevolent energy. The dark mage raised its hand, and a wave of dark energy washed over the goblins, buffing them with increased strength and speed. The orc let out a deafening roar, its massive battle-axe glowing with a dark, eerie light. Scorch and Sir Valoric knew that they were in for the fight of their lives. The goblin mage began to chant, its voice rising and falling in a hypnotic rhythm. A bolt of dark energy shot towards Scorch, but Sir Valoric intervened, his sword slicing through the air to deflect the attack. The goblin archer took aim, its arrow flying straight and true, but Scorch dodged to the side, avoiding the projectile by mere inches. The orc charged, its battle-axe swinging in wide arcs, but Scorch and Sir Valoric dodged and weaved, their movements fluid and calculated. The dark mage continued to chant, its voice growing louder and more intense, as it poured more dark energy into the fray. Scorch and Sir Valoric knew that they had to take down the dark mage and the orc if they were to have any hope of surviving this battle. But as they looked at each other, they knew that it wouldn't be easy. The enemy was stronger, faster, and more coordinated than ever before. The question was, could they overcome the odds and emerge victorious?
