"Confinement and Despair"
Part 6
The angry officer's face twisted in a scowl as he said, "Well, if you won't tell us, then back to the cell." Ashley felt a surge of fear as he dragged her out of the interview room, her arms being pulled behind her back. The cold metal of the handcuffs closed around her wrists, biting into her skin. As they walked down the dimly lit corridor, the sound of footsteps echoed off the walls. Ashley stumbled, but the officer's grip on her arm tightened, holding her upright. They passed by rows of steel doors, each one leading to a cell like the one she had been taken to earlier. The officer finally stopped in front of a cell and pushed Ashley inside. She stumbled, her legs buckling beneath her, as he released her arm. The officer slammed the cell door shut behind her, and Ashley felt a sense of isolation wash over her. The officer handcuffed her to the prison bed, the metal cuff clicking into place. Ashley cried out as he let go of her arm, her body sagging against the bed. The officer tossed a bottle of water onto the bed beside her, and it landed with a soft clunk. "You're going to be here for a while," he said, his voice devoid of empathy. "Maybe when you've had some time to think, you'll decide to tell us the truth." Ashley buried her face in her hands, tears streaming down her face as she let out a despairing cry. She felt trapped, alone, and scared. The cold, hard bed seemed to be closing in around her, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she was running out of time. As she cried, Ashley's thoughts swirled with questions. What did they want from her? Why did they think she was involved in the murder? And what was going to happen to her next? The darkness of the cell seemed to be suffocating her, and Ashley wondered if she would ever find a way out.
