Chapter 2: The Web of Secrets

Part 2

The air in the room was thick with tension as Silky, Jason, and Adapt waited for my response. I could feel my heart racing, and my mind was reeling with questions. How could Silky do this? Didn't he care about the consequences? I looked at Jason and Adapt, and they seemed to be waiting for me to say something, but I couldn't find the words. Silky broke the silence, "Ryah, I know this may seem shocking, but please, just listen to me." He took a step closer to me, his eyes pleading for understanding. "Jason and Adapt are my friends, and we've been through a lot together. We've been in a polyamorous relationship for a while now, and it's worked for us." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Polyamorous relationship? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought back to all the times Silky and I had flirted on stream, and how I had assumed he felt the same way about me. But now, I wasn't so sure. Was he just using me for attention, or did he really care about me? "How could you not tell me?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "We've been friends for a long time, and I thought we were closer than that." Silky sighed, "I know, Ryah, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. It's just... complicated." He glanced at Jason and Adapt, who were watching us with concerned expressions. I turned to Jason and Adapt, "And what about you two? Don't you think this is a problem? You're both 28, and you're in a relationship with a 21-year-old. That's a big age gap." Jason spoke up, "Ryah, we know it's not for everyone, but we're happy, and we make sure to communicate openly and honestly with each other. We're not trying to hurt anyone." I shook my head, "But what about the power dynamic? You're both older, and you're in a position of influence. How can you be sure that Silky isn't taking advantage of you, or that you're not taking advantage of him?" Adapt stood up, "Ryah, we're not stupid. We know what we're doing. We've talked about this, and we're all on the same page." Silky put his arm around me again, "Ryah, please, just try to understand. We're happy, and that's all that matters." But I couldn't understand. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down. I didn't know what to think or feel. All I knew was that I needed some time to process everything. "I need some space," I said, pulling away from Silky. "I need to think about this and figure out what I want to do." Silky nodded, "Okay, Ryah. I understand. But please, don't say anything to anyone else. We need to handle this carefully." I nodded, still feeling dazed and confused. I turned and walked out of the room, leaving Silky, Jason, and Adapt behind. I didn't know what the future held, but I knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
