"Vomiting Emotions"

Part 2

Maya's hands trembled as she grasped the toilet bowl, her body heaving with a violent force that seemed to shake every fiber of her being. She had eaten a sandwich for lunch, but it was now making a reappearance, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief as the acidic mixture splashed into the water. The action was mindless, a repetitive cycle of consume and purge that had become all too familiar in the days following Nick's betrayal. As she rinsed her mouth and washed her hands, Maya couldn't shake off the feeling of self-loathing that had been plaguing her. She felt like she was losing control, like her emotions were dictating her every move. The mirror in front of her reflected a pale, gaunt face, with dark circles under her eyes. Her blonde hair hung limp and lifeless, a stark contrast to the vibrant, energetic person she used to be. Just as she was starting to calm down, Maya heard a loud knock on the door. She knew it was Sabrina, and her instincts told her to stay quiet. But Sabrina wasn't having it. She turned the handle and stormed into the room, her eyes blazing with anger. "You're still with him, aren't you?" Sabrina spat, her voice venomous. "I saw the way you were looking at him, the way he was looking at you. You're just as guilty as he is." Maya felt a surge of defensiveness, but she knew she couldn't deny it. She had been with Nick, and she had enjoyed it. But that was before she knew he was in a relationship with Sabrina. "I...I can explain," Maya stammered, feeling a wave of shame wash over her. "Explain?" Sabrina's voice rose to a hysterical pitch. "There's no explanation for what you did. You knew he was with me, and yet you still went ahead and slept with him. You're disgusting." Maya felt a lump form in her throat as she listened to Sabrina's tirade. She knew she had hurt her, and she didn't blame her for being angry. But a part of her wanted to defend herself, to tell Sabrina that she wasn't the only one to blame. "You're one to talk," Maya snapped, her voice rising. "You're just as much a part of this mess as I am. You're in a polygamous relationship with Nick, and you have the nerve to come in here and lecture me?" Sabrina's face turned red with rage, and for a moment, Maya thought she was going to lash out physically. But then, Sabrina's expression changed, and she looked at Maya with a mixture of sadness and contempt. "You're just a homewrecker," Sabrina whispered, her voice dripping with malice. "And I don't want you anywhere near Nick or me again." With that, Sabrina turned and stormed out of the room, leaving Maya feeling shattered and more alone than ever. The sound of the door slamming shut behind Sabrina echoed through the hallway, a stark reminder of the destruction that had been wrought. Maya's world was crumbling around her, and she didn't know how to stop it.
