Chapter 13: A Week of Silence

Part 13

A week of silence had descended upon Pamela like a shroud, suffocating her with uncertainty. It had been seven long days since Luka had walked away, leaving her with a promise to return soon. But soon had turned into a distant memory, and Pamela was starting to lose hope. She had gone to work every day, mechanically performing her tasks, but her mind was elsewhere. Every hour, she would find herself checking her phone, willing it to buzz with a message from Luka. But there was nothing. No calls, no texts, no messages. As the days ticked by, Pamela's thoughts had become a jumbled mess of emotions. She wondered if she had misread the situation entirely. Had Luka been using her as a temporary distraction from his troubles? Did he ever intend to keep his promise to return? The questions swirled in her mind like a vortex, pulling her down into a sea of self-doubt. Pamela tried to push the thoughts away, focusing on her work and the familiar routine of her daily life. But it was hard to shake off the feeling of abandonment. She felt like she was stuck in limbo, unable to move forward or go back. Her mind kept wandering back to Luka, wondering what he was doing, if he was okay, and if he would ever come back to her. As she walked home from work one evening, Pamela couldn't help but feel a sense of restlessness. She had tried to occupy herself with TV shows, books, and even exercise, but nothing seemed to fill the void left by Luka's absence. She felt like a part of her was missing, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was waiting for something, or someone. Pamela arrived at her apartment, feeling drained and emotionally exhausted. She flopped onto the couch, staring blankly at the TV as it droned on in the background. She felt like she was losing herself in the silence, like she was disappearing into thin air. She closed her eyes, trying to will away the tears that pricked at the corners of her eyes. As the night wore on, Pamela found herself scrolling through her phone, re-reading their conversations, and re-living the moments they had shared. She felt like she was grasping at straws, trying to cling to something that was slipping away from her. She knew she had to let go, but a part of her couldn't help but hold on to the hope that Luka would come back, that he would make things right. The darkness outside seemed to press in on her, making her feel small and alone. Pamela sighed, feeling like she was stuck in a never-ending cycle of uncertainty. Would she ever hear from Luka again? Only time would tell.
