"Electricity in the Air"
Part 3
The encounter with Torment had left Remi reeling, his mind replaying the brief touch of their fingers and the intensity of Torment's gaze. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something had shifted between them, that an invisible line had been crossed. As he finished up the inventory, Remi's thoughts drifted to Nem's words, wondering if his friend had somehow sensed the connection that was growing between him and her brother. The next morning, Remi arrived at The Cozy Cup early, his nerves jangling with anticipation. Torment and Nem strolled in, exchanging banter with Rachel as they ordered their usual drinks. Remi's hands moved on autopilot, crafting their drinks with precision, but his eyes kept drifting to Torment's face. As he handed Torment his cappuccino, their fingers touched again, this time more deliberately. Torment's eyes locked onto Remi's, and for a fleeting moment, they just stared at each other. Nem, noticing the exchange, grinned mischievously and whispered something in Torment's ear, making him chuckle. The tension between them was palpable, and Remi felt like he was walking on eggshells, unsure of how to navigate the new dynamic. But as the days went by, Torment continued to linger at The Cozy Cup, often staying to chat with Remi and the other regulars. Their conversations flowed easily, and Remi discovered they shared a love for literature and music. One afternoon, as the cafe was quiet, Torment approached Remi, who was wiping down the counter. "Hey, Remi, can I ask you something?" Torment said, his voice low and conspiratorial. Remi nodded, his heart racing with anticipation. "Do you have any favorite books?" Torment asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. Remi launched into a passionate discussion about his favorite authors, and Torment listened intently, asking insightful questions and sharing his own favorite books. As they talked, the cafe's atmosphere transformed, becoming cozier and more intimate. Rachel, observing from the sidelines, smiled knowingly, sensing the chemistry between the two. Nem, who had been studying in the corner, looked up, a pleased expression on her face. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the cafe, Torment glanced at his watch and said, "I should get going, but I was thinking... maybe we could grab coffee outside of The Cozy Cup sometime?" Remi's heart skipped a beat as he met Torment's gaze, the air thick with possibility. "Yeah, I'd like that," Remi replied, trying to sound casual despite the excitement coursing through his veins. Torment smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and Remi knew that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't yet imagine. As Torment walked out of the cafe, Nem sidled up to Remi, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I told you, Remi, my brother is a softie. I think you two are going to get along just fine." Remi rolled his eyes, laughing, but deep down, he was already counting down the hours until their next meeting.
