Chapter One: A Hair-Raising Experience
Part 1
Jason stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him. His dad's words still echoed in his mind, "You're 21, Jason, but you still act like a child. That ridiculous hair and those piercings... what's wrong with you?" The slap on his cheek still stung, and he couldn't help but rub it absently as he walked down the sidewalk. He had no particular destination in mind, just a need to clear his head and calm down. As he walked, Jason couldn't help but think about how his dad just didn't get it. He was an adult, for crying out loud! He could make his own decisions about his appearance. But his dad just wouldn't let it go. Jason sighed and shook his head, his short, fluffy bleach-dyed hair bobbing with the motion. After a while, Jason found himself standing in front of a familiar house. Ron's house. His best friend Ron. Jason hadn't seen him in a while, but he knew Ron would be home on a Saturday afternoon. Jason walked up the path and was about to knock when Ron appeared at the door, a look of concern on his face. "Jason, what's wrong?" Ron asked, eyeing the red mark on Jason's cheek. Jason hesitated for a moment before launching into the story of his argument with his dad. Ron listened intently, his eyes getting wider and wider as Jason spoke. "Ah, man, that's harsh," Ron said, shaking his head. "You can't go back there, not now. You're welcome to crash at my place for the weekend, if you want." Jason hesitated, unsure if he wanted to impose on Ron. But Ron's friendly face and inviting tone put him at ease. "Yeah, okay, thanks Ron," Jason said finally, grateful for the offer. Ron grinned and stepped aside, letting Jason in. The house was quiet, and Jason soon found out why. Ron explained that his brothers, Adapt and Lacy, and their friends, Max and Silky, were out at the store getting food. "So, it's just us for now," Ron said, gesturing to the empty living room. Jason flopped down on the couch, feeling a bit exhausted from the argument and the walk. Ron sat down beside him, and Jason couldn't help but make a joke. "Hey, thanks for taking me in, Ron. I promise I won't eat all your food... or steal your girlfriend." Ron chuckled. "Don't worry, Jason. I don't have a girlfriend, and even if I did, I'm not sure you'd be interested." Jason raised an eyebrow, grinning. "You never know, Ron. I'm a catch." The two friends laughed, and for a moment, Jason forgot about his argument with his dad. But as they sat there, Jason couldn't help but wonder what the rest of the weekend would bring. He was about to find out a lot more about Ron's life, and the people in it.
