Chapter 4: A Simple Grocery Run
Part 4
The cashier, a bright pink-haired young woman with a friendly smile, began scanning their items, her eyes widening as she picked up the box of condoms. "Oh, you're going to go like animals, huh?" she teased, raising an eyebrow. Vassago's eyes narrowed, his expression curious. "Why would you assume that?" he asked, his voice polite but slightly guarded. The cashier chuckled, holding up the box for them to see. "Well, it's right here on the packaging," she said, her voice dripping with amusement. "It says 'for use during vaginal intercourse'... or something like that." She squinted at the box, then began to read aloud, "'For use during vaginal intercourse to reduce the risk of pregnancy and certain sexually transmitted infections.'" Blitz's face turned bright red as he buried his face in Vassago's shoulder, trying to hide his embarrassment. Vassago, on the other hand, looked intrigued, his eyes fixed on the box as the cashier continued to read. The cashier finished reading and put the box down, a mischievous glint in her eye. "So, are you two, uh, planning on getting a little wild?" she asked, winking at them. Vassago's expression turned serious, his voice firm. "We're just stocking up, that's all," he said, his tone leaving no room for further questions. The cashier laughed, holding up her hands in a gesture of surrender. "Okay, okay, I won't pry," she said, smiling. "That'll be $23.50 please." As Vassago handed over his payment, Blitz couldn't help but whisper in his ear, "You're such a prude, Vass." Vassago's eyes flicked towards him, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I'm just being responsible," he whispered back. The cashier, still smiling, handed them their change and their grocery bags. "Enjoy your, uh, evening," she said, winking at them. As they walked out of the store, Blitz turned to Vassago, still chuckling. "You're something else, you know that?" he said, shaking his head. Vassago just smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Hey, someone has to keep us safe," he said, his voice low and teasing. Blitz playfully rolled his eyes, taking their grocery bags from Vassago. "I think we've got it covered, babe," he said, smiling up at Vassago. Vassago grinned, falling into step beside Blitz. "I'm just glad we can have a good laugh about it," he said, his voice warm and contented. As they walked off into the sunshine, arm in arm, Blitz couldn't help but feel grateful for their little moment of embarrassment. It was just another reminder that, no matter what life threw their way, they could face it together, with laughter and love.
