The Trail of Links
Part 6
I sat across from Elizabeth, my mind still reeling with the information she had provided earlier. Three more Links had vanished, and I was determined to help her uncover the pattern behind these disappearances. I took a deep breath, focusing on the task at hand. "So, the third Link," I said, my voice firm. "You said I was on the right track with Linkoln, but you didn't confirm if it was correct or not." Elizabeth leaned back in her chair, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I didn't confirm it, but I didn't deny it either," she said with a hint of a smile. "Let's just say that you're close, but you need to think outside the box again." I furrowed my brow, trying to process the information. "Okay, so the third Link has an uncommon first name for a male," I said, recalling our previous conversation. "And he was given the last name 'Link' by an Englishman with the first name Lionel." Elizabeth's eyes sparkled with amusement. "That's correct, Iris. The Englishman with the first name Lionel is the key to unlocking the identity of the third Link." I leaned forward, my excitement growing. "And what about the first name?" I asked. "You said it's not a typical boy's name, even though the person is a male." Elizabeth nodded, her expression serious. "Yes, that's correct. The first name was chosen by the person himself later on. It's a name that's often associated with females, but in this case, it's been given to a male." I took a deep breath, my mind racing with possibilities. I thought about names that were often associated with females but could also be given to males. I thought about names that were uncommon for boys but could fit the description. "Is it... Leslie?" I ventured, my voice unsure. Elizabeth's expression was unreadable, and she didn't respond immediately. I held my breath, waiting for her reaction. Finally, she spoke, her voice low and mysterious. "Leslie Link," she said, her eyes locked on mine. "But not just any Leslie Link. I think you'll find that this Leslie Link is quite... interesting." I felt a surge of excitement mixed with curiosity. Who was Leslie Link, and what was his connection to the other Links? I knew I had to learn more about him, and I was determined to uncover the truth. "Tell me more," I said, my voice firm. Elizabeth smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "All in good time, Iris," she said. "But for now, let's just say that Leslie Link is a character from a classic novel by an English author." I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. I knew I had to read more, to learn more about Leslie Link and his connection to the other Links. And I was determined to uncover the truth, no matter what it took.
