Tears in the Dark

Part 14

Maya lay in bed, her eyes fixed on the ceiling as the darkness seemed to close in around her. It had been hours since they'd left the pool, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of emptiness that had settled in her chest. Nick had avoided her, barely speaking a word as they'd gone about their evening. It was as if he'd retreated into a shell, leaving Maya to wonder if she'd imagined the entire encounter in the pool. She thought back to the way he'd looked at her, his eyes burning with intensity, his body responding to hers. But then, in an instant, everything had changed. He'd pulled away, avoiding her gaze as if she was a stranger. The pain of it was like a knife to her heart, twisting and turning with every passing moment. Maya's eyes pricked with tears as she thought about Sabrina's interruption, and how it had shattered the spell that had been cast between them. She'd seen the way Nick had looked at her, the desire in his eyes, and she'd known that he felt the same way. But now, it seemed like it was all a lie. She let out a soft sob, her body shaking as the tears began to flow. Why was he treating her like this? Had she done something wrong? The questions swirled in her mind, but she couldn't find any answers. As the tears streamed down her face, Maya felt like she was drowning in her own sorrow. She'd never felt this way before, like she was losing a part of herself. She thought about all the times they'd shared, the laughter, the adventures, and the quiet moments like the one in the pool. It was all slipping away, and she couldn't do anything to stop it. The room seemed to grow darker, the shadows closing in around her as she cried. Maya's body shook with sobs, her heart breaking into a million pieces. She felt like she was losing Nick, like he was slipping away from her, and she didn't know how to hold on. As the night wore on, Maya's tears slowly dried, her body exhausted from crying. She lay there, her eyes fixed on the ceiling, her heart heavy with sorrow. She knew that she had to talk to Nick, to confront him about what was happening. But for now, she just lay there, lost in her own thoughts, and drifted off to sleep, her heart broken into pieces.
