A Night of Vulnerability
Part 3
Adapt nodded, gently combing through Jason’s hair with his hand, “Take your time Jay.” The soft gesture seemed to calm Jason, who had been quiet and still since they left the pizza place. After some time, Ron pulled into Adapt's driveway, and they all piled out of the car. Ron turned to Adapt and said, “Adapt, I think it would be smart if you took care of him for the night, me and Lacy are going to go talk with the others.” Lacy, who had been quiet until now, asked, “We are?” before getting elbowed in the gut by Ron. Adapt nodded and agreed, gently guiding the drunk and emotional Jason into his house. As they walked, Jason stumbled slightly, and Adapt caught him, holding him upright. Once inside, Adapt guided Jason up the stairs to his bedroom, since he didn’t have a guest bedroom. The room was a sanctuary, with a large bed and a gaming setup in the corner. “Jason, you can sleep in here tonight, I’ll sleep downstairs,” Adapt stated, trying to sound calm and soothing. But Jason wasn’t having it. “No, wait, I don’t wanna be alone,” he mumbled, his voice almost childlike. Adapt nodded, “Do you want me to sleep in here on the floor?” Jason thought for a moment before responding, “We can share the bed, I don’t mind.” Adapt hesitated, “Jay, I don’t know if that’s a smart idea considering what you’ve told us.” He was trying to be responsible, but Jason’s eyes looked up at him, pleading and vulnerable. Jason mumbled once again, “I’ll be fine, just please don’t leave me alone.” Adapt finally agreed, his heart going out to his friend. “I have some clothes you can borrow, they might be a bit big on you though,” Adapt stated, walking to his large closet. He grabbed a soft hoodie and a pair of soft baggy sweatpants. Jason accepted the clothes and changed in the connected bathroom before re-entering the bedroom to sleep. As Jason laid in bed under the covers, he curled into Adapt’s warmth, seeking comfort. Adapt wrapped his arms around Jason, holding him close. Jason's body fit perfectly into Adapt's, and for a moment, they just lay there, silent and still. The room was quiet, with only the sound of Jason’s occasional sniffles breaking the stillness. Adapt held him tight, trying to offer what little comfort he could. As they lay there, Adapt realized that this was more than just a friendly gesture – it was a moment of vulnerability, a moment where they could be themselves, without fear of judgment. As the night wore on, Jason's body relaxed, and he drifted off to sleep, Adapt still holding him close. Adapt lay awake, watching over Jason, and wondering what the future held for their little group. But for now, he was just happy to be there for his friend, to offer him a safe haven in a time of need.
