"A Concerned Teacher"

Part 20

Can you sit down, Ashley? Mrs. Johnson said. Ashley nodded, still feeling a mix of emotions as she took her seat. She couldn't help but wonder why Mrs. Johnson wanted to speak with her. Had she done something wrong? Ashley's mind began to wander, and she thought about all the possible reasons why her teacher might be calling her out. As she sat down, Mrs. Johnson leaned back in her chair and steepled her fingers. "Ashley, I wanted to talk to you about your test results," she said. Ashley's heart skipped a beat. Had she somehow messed up? "You did exceptionally well, I must say," Mrs. Johnson continued. "But I'm a bit concerned." Ashley's eyes widened in surprise. Concerned? But she had passed. "I passed, it's nothing to worry about," Ashley said, trying to reassure her teacher. Mrs. Johnson smiled kindly. "I'm not worried about your passing, Ashley. I'm concerned about your work. You see, you have a natural talent for this subject, and I think you have the potential to excel. But I also noticed that you seemed a bit... distracted during the test." Ashley's eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with her hands. She had been distracted, but it was only because she was worried about Erica. She didn't want her sister to have to repeat her senior year. "I see," Mrs. Johnson said, as if she understood. "Well, I just want to make sure that you're doing okay, Ashley. You're one of my best students, and I don't want to see you struggle." Ashley looked up, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her teacher. She realized that Mrs. Johnson wasn't just a teacher, she was someone who genuinely cared about her students' well-being. "I'm fine, Mrs. Johnson," Ashley said, trying to reassure her. "I just... I have a lot on my mind, that's all." Mrs. Johnson nodded sympathetically. "I understand. Well, just remember that I'm here for you, Ashley. If you ever need to talk or need any help, don't hesitate to reach out. Okay?" Ashley nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She was grateful for her teacher's concern and kindness. As she left the classroom, Ashley felt a sense of appreciation for Mrs. Johnson and a renewed sense of determination to do her best.
