**Chapter 27: New Beginnings**
Part 27
As they left the hospital, Ashley felt a sense of liberation wash over her. She was finally going home, or at least, she was going to Erica's home, where she would stay until she was back on her feet. The car ride was short, and before she knew it, they were pulling up to Erica's cozy little house. Ashley's eyes scanned the familiar exterior, and a smile spread across her face as she saw the cheerful yellow door and the welcoming porch. As they stepped inside, Ashley was immediately greeted by a bundle of energy. Jagger, Erica's lovable golden retriever, came bounding into the room, his tail wagging furiously. "Hey, buddy!" Ashley exclaimed, her eyes shining with delight. She hadn't seen Jagger in months, and her heart swelled with joy as the dog nuzzled her hand. Jagger, excited to see Ashley, jumped up and nearly knocked her over, his nose brushing against her port. Ashley laughed and playfully pushed him away. "Wow, it's been months since I left the hospital, I guess you're a little excited to see me!" Erica chuckled and scolded Jagger, "Easy, boy! Ashley's not as sturdy as she used to be." Ashley followed Erica into the kitchen, where they sat down at the table. Erica began to show her some of the baby stuff she had bought, pulling out adorable onesies and tiny socks. Ashley oohed and ahhed over the baby clothes, feeling a sense of wonder at the new life that was growing inside Erica. As they chatted, Ashley caught glimpses of the nursery Erica had set up. It was a beautiful, serene space, filled with soft colors and plush toys. Ashley felt a pang of excitement for her friend, who was soon to become a mother. Just as they were getting settled, the door opened, and Erica's partner, Harry, walked in. "Hey, guys!" he said, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Ashley. Erica stood up to greet him, and Ashley followed suit. "Harry, this is Ashley," Erica said, as Harry approached her with a warm smile. "Ashley's going to be staying with us for a while." Harry's eyes flicked to Ashley's port, and for a moment, Ashley worried that she might be intruding. But Harry just smiled and nodded, his expression kind and welcoming. Erica explained, "Ashley's just been discharged from the hospital. She's in remission, but she needs some care and support while she recovers." Harry nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. "So, let's order a pizza for dinner," he said, pulling out his phone. "We can catch up and celebrate Ashley's good news." Ashley smiled, feeling grateful for the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Erica's home. She knew she was in good hands, and that she would be able to focus on her recovery with the support of her dear friend and her partner.
