"Unveiling the Double Standard"
Part 5
As they stood in the empty hallway, Kai's anger seemed to have dissipated, replaced by a calm and collected demeanor that made DDG's frustration grow. "You can't just threaten students, DDG," Kai stated firmly, his voice low and even. "You can't use physical intimidation to discipline them. That's not what we're here for." "But you don't understand, Dean Kai," DDG protested, his voice rising. "Ray was being completely out of control. What if a student attacks me? Then what? Am I just supposed to stand there and take it?" Kai's expression turned incredulous. "You may harm a student if it's self-defense, but Ray didn't harm you in any way. He threw a fucking skittle at you, and you threatened to harm him!" Kai exclaimed, his voice growing louder. He even yelled out a curse, making DDG take a step back in shock. "I felt threatened," DDG stammered, trying to defend his actions. Kai's eye twitched, and he took a deep breath before responding. "Fine, then let me add to the self-defense rule: no harming a student unless it's self-defense, unless it's Ray, then don't do anything but write a note of what he's done wrong and send him to my office." The passive-aggressive tone in Kai's voice was unmistakable, and DDG's eyes widened in shock. DDG couldn't believe the favoritism being shown by the University Dean. He had never known that Kai and Ray had even met, let alone that Kai would go to such lengths to protect him. "But, Dean Kai, that's not fair," DDG began, but Kai cut him off. "Honestly, you should be glad I'm the one who caught you and not Duke," Kai said, a smirk on his face. Just then, a voice spoke up from behind them. "What about me?" Duke asked, walking down the hallway towards them.
