Chapter 1: A Blast from the Past

Part 1

"Whoa, Lloyd, check this out!" Harry exclaimed, rummaging through the depths of their old Shaggin' Wagon. Lloyd, sitting in the driver's seat, turned to see what Harry had found. "What is it, Harry?" Lloyd asked, curiosity piqued. Harry held up a dusty, crumpled package. "I think it's beef jerky!" he said, a look of excitement on his face. Lloyd's eyes lit up. "No way! I totally forgot we put that there!" He chuckled. "Remember when we went to see Harry and the Hendersons at the cinema seven years ago?" Harry grinned. "How could I forget? We went out to buy some snacks, and I think we stopped at that gas station on the way out of town." Lloyd nodded. "That's right! And we bought a bunch of beef jerky. I must have stuck it under the dashboard and forgotten about it." Harry examined the package. "It's from 1987. Seven years old!" He looked at Lloyd. "You think it's still good?" Lloyd shrugged. "Why not? It's just a little...mature." Harry chuckled. "Mature? That's one way to put it. But I'm starving. Want to give it a try?" Lloyd hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Sure, why not? It's not like it's going to kill us or anything." Harry ripped open the package, and a musty smell wafted out. They both peered inside, and their faces scrunched up in unison. "Ugh, it looks like it's been through a war," Lloyd said, wrinkling his nose. Harry pulled out a piece of jerky and held it up. "Smell it," he said, waving it under Lloyd's nose. Lloyd took a tentative sniff and recoiled. "Whoa, that's...pungent." Harry grinned. "That's just the aroma of aged beef." Lloyd raised an eyebrow. "Aged beef? You mean like aged cheese?" Harry nodded. "Exactly! It's like a fine wine. It only gets better with time." Lloyd looked skeptical, but Harry was already popping the jerky into his mouth. He chewed slowly, his face scrunched up in concentration. Lloyd watched, waiting for Harry's reaction. "So, how is it?" he asked. Harry swallowed, and a look of surprise crossed his face. "It's...different." Lloyd raised an eyebrow. "Different?" Harry nodded. "Yeah. It's like...have you ever eaten something that's been left in the attic for years?" Lloyd thought for a moment. "Uh, no." Harry grinned. "Well, this is like that. But in a good way." Lloyd shook his head, laughing. "You're crazy, Harry. But I'm going to try some too." Harry handed Lloyd a piece of jerky, and Lloyd took a tentative bite. His face immediately contorted in surprise. "Wow," he said, spitting out the jerky. "That's... quite an experience." Harry burst out laughing. "Told you it was good!" Lloyd glared at him, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "You didn't warn me." Harry chuckled, still laughing. "I should have. But come on, it's not that bad." Lloyd raised an eyebrow. "Not that bad? You're insane, Harry." As they sat there, laughing and arguing, they both took another bite of the seven-year-old beef jerky, savoring the... unique experience.
