Chapter 1: The Beginning
Part 1
The sun, aptly named Sol, was shining brightly in the sky, not just figuratively, but literally. She was beaming with joy as she dealt out the space cards to her friends, the planets, gathered around the celestial table. The moon, Luna, was giggling as she picked up her hand, while Mars, the red planet, was scowling at his cards. "Come on, Sol, deal me a better hand!" Mars joked, his rusty red hue deepening to a rich burgundy as he grinned. Sol chuckled and winked at him. "You know I've got to keep things interesting, Mars. You can't always win." Venus, the goddess-like planet, smoothed out her silky, white atmosphere and examined her cards. "I think I've got a good one this time, friends. Watch out." Earth, the blue-green planet, chuckled and shook her head. "You always think you've got a good one, Venus. But I'm the one with the lucky streak." The group of planets, along with the sun and moon, continued their game, laughing and joking as they went. Jupiter, the gas giant, boomed out a laugh, his massive size causing the table to shake. "I've got a royal flush!" he exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air. The others oohed and ahhed, impressed by Jupiter's win. Saturn, the ringed beauty, smiled and patted Jupiter on the back. "Congratulations, Jupiter. You're the champion... for now." As they played, the planets chatted about their daily lives. Earth talked about the latest developments in her human population, while Mars discussed his latest robotic explorations. Venus shared stories of her volcanic activities, and Jupiter regaled the group with tales of his massive storms. Sol watched over her friends with a warm heart. She loved these gatherings, where they could all just relax and be themselves. It was moments like these that reminded her why she loved being the sun – she got to shine bright and bring light to her friends. Luna, who had been quietly observing the game, suddenly spoke up. "You know, friends, I've been noticing some strange occurrences in the outer reaches of the solar system. Some asteroids have been acting funny, and I've heard whispers of a... a dark presence lurking in the shadows." The group fell silent, their eyes turning to Luna. Sol's warm glow dimmed slightly, and Mars's grin faltered. "What kind of dark presence?" he asked, his voice tinged with concern. Luna shook her head. "I don't know, but I've got a bad feeling about it. Maybe we should-" But before Luna could finish, the game was interrupted by a loud, booming voice that echoed across the solar system. "You should be worried, planets! You should be very worried! For I am the dark force that will bring you all to your knees!" The planets gasped, their eyes scanning the horizon for the speaker. Sol's light flickered with alarm, and Mars's scowl deepened. "Who are you?" Sol demanded, her voice firm. The response was a cold, mirthless laugh. "You will soon find out. But for now, let this be a warning: I will destroy you all, and no one will be spared." As the dark force's words faded away, the planets looked at each other in shock. And then, in an instant, everything changed. A blast of dark energy shot across the solar system, striking Mercury with incredible force. The small planet let out a cry of pain as he stumbled and fell, his rocky surface cracking and shattering. The planets rushed to his side, shocked and horrified by what they saw. Mercury, once a small, agile planet, was now... a baby. A tiny, helpless infant with a smooth, rounded face and large, round eyes. The planets gasped in shock, unsure of what to do. Sol gently reached out with her warm light, enveloping Mercury in a soothing glow. "Don't worry, little one," she cooed. "We'll take care of you. You're one of us, and we'll protect you with our lives." Luna stepped forward, her gentle light shining on Mercury's tiny form. "We'll figure out what to do, friends. But for now, let's just focus on taking care of Mercury. He's going to need us." As the planets nodded in agreement, they knew that their lives would never be the same. A dark force was coming for them, and they had to be ready. But for now, they had a new, tiny member to care for – and a new challenge to face together.
