Chapter 13: A Day of Uncertainty

Part 12

As Kenzy finished responding to Mia's messages, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. Her best friend was getting married in a few weeks, and Mia had been blowing up her phone with excitement. Kenzy was looking forward to attending the wedding and celebrating with Mia, but for now, she was content to simply enjoy the quiet morning with Levi. She walked into the kitchen, where Levi was busy cooking up a storm. The aroma of scrambled eggs and bacon filled the air, making her stomach growl with hunger. Levi looked up, a spatula in hand, and smiled. "Hey, beautiful," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I made your favorite breakfast." Kenzy's heart skipped a beat as she walked over to him. She leaned in, her lips brushing against his cheek. "Mmm, it smells amazing," she said, her voice husky. As they sat down to eat, Kenzy's phone buzzed again. She glanced at the screen, her eyes widening in surprise. It was a text from her estranged father, asking her to meet up for lunch. Kenzy's heart sank as she read the message. She hadn't spoken to her father in years, not since her parents' messy divorce. The memories of that time still lingered, painful and raw. Levi noticed her expression and set his fork down. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice gentle. Kenzy hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She didn't want to ruin their perfect morning with her complicated family drama. But Levi's eyes were already filled with concern, and she knew she couldn't avoid the truth. "It's my dad," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "He wants to meet up for lunch." Levi's expression turned serious. "What do you want to do?" he asked, his voice firm. Kenzy shrugged, feeling a sense of uncertainty wash over her. Part of her wanted to ignore her father's message, to pretend she never received it. But another part of her, a part she couldn't quite explain, wanted to see him, to know why he was reaching out after all these years. "I don't know," she said, her voice laced with doubt. Levi's eyes locked onto hers, filled with understanding. "You don't have to go," he said. "But if you do, I'll be here, waiting for you." Kenzy's heart swelled with gratitude. She knew that Levi would support her, no matter what she decided. But as she looked at him, she knew that she had to make a decision, and soon. Her father's message had stirred up a hornet's nest of emotions, and she couldn't ignore them forever.
