The Interview and Introduction
Part 3
The day of the interview had finally arrived, and Koa stood outside the Brisbane Broncos' facility, her heart racing with anticipation. She took a deep breath, smoothing out her dress and making her way to the entrance. As she walked in, she was greeted by a friendly receptionist who led her to a conference room where the coach, Wayne Bennett, and the owner, Shaz Talia, were waiting for her. Koa extended her hand, and the two men stood up to greet her. "Koa, great to meet you," Coach Bennett said with a warm smile. "Please, have a seat." Koa sat down, trying to compose herself as the coach and owner began to ask her questions. She had prepared well, and her nerves started to dissipate as she answered confidently about her experience, her vision for the team, and her management style. "I have a background in sports management, having worked with various teams in the Pacific," Koa explained. "I'm passionate about creating a positive team culture and fostering an environment that encourages growth and success." Coach Bennett and Shaz Talia listened attentively, nodding their heads as Koa spoke. They asked her about her approach to conflict resolution, her experience with budgeting, and her strategy for engaging with the community. Koa answered each question thoughtfully, drawing from her experiences and education. After about 30 minutes of questioning, Coach Bennett smiled and said, "I think that's all the questions we have for now, Koa. You've done a great job. Now, let's move on to the trial period." Shaz Talia stood up and led Koa to a nearby office. "During the trial period, you'll be working on some typical managerial duties, such as reviewing game footage, attending meetings, and assisting with administrative tasks," he explained. Coach Bennett chimed in, "We want to see how you fit in with the team and how you handle the responsibilities. We've had some...interesting applicants in the past." Koa raised an eyebrow, curious. "Oh? What do you mean?" Shaz Talia leaned back in his chair. "Well, we've had some candidates who were more interested in getting close to the players than doing the job properly. We've had to let them go, unfortunately." Coach Bennett added, "Just so we're clear, Koa, there is no policy against dating the players, as long as it doesn't affect their performance or create any conflicts of interest. We just want to make sure everyone is on the same page." Koa nodded, understanding. "I appreciate your transparency. I'll make sure to keep my focus on the job and the team's success." With that, the three of them headed out to the field, where the team was waiting. As they approached, Koa felt a surge of nervousness. She had never met the team before, and she wasn't sure what to expect. Coach Bennett called out to the team, "Alright, guys! Gather 'round. We've got our new candidate, Koa, who's going to be working with us during the trial period." The players turned to face her, and Koa took a deep breath. "Hi everyone, I'm Koa. I'm...um...excited to be here and...hope I can be helpful for the team," she said, trying to sound confident. The team smiled and nodded in greeting, and Koa felt a little more at ease. She was ready to prove herself and show the team that she was the right person for the job.
