Seeking Approval for a Legendary Quest
Part 4
As I walked through the corridors of the Knights' Academy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. I had been tasked with a quest by my patron, a quest that every knight dreamed of, and I was eager to embark on it. However, I knew that I first had to report it to one of the senior knight-commanders. I had decided to approach Elder Lazarus, the one who had given me a chance to join the academy when I had sought to join. His kind eyes and words of encouragement still lingered in my mind, and I hoped that he would be receptive to my request. I knocked on the door of Elder Lazarus's chambers, and a soft voice bid me enter. I pushed open the door and found myself in a cozy room filled with books and scrolls. Elder Lazarus sat behind a large wooden desk, his eyes fixed on me as I approached. "Ah, young one," he said, his voice warm and welcoming. "What brings you to my chambers today?" I took a deep breath and explained, "Elder, I have been given a quest by my patron. I must find a lost temple and restore the sacred flame." I carefully left out the details of my patron's identity, choosing to keep that information to myself for the time being. Elder Lazarus's eyebrows rose in interest, and he leaned forward in his chair. "A quest, you say? That's quite an undertaking. What makes you think you're ready for such a task?" I stood tall, trying to convey my confidence and determination. "I believe I'm ready, Elder. I've been training for this moment, and I'm eager to prove myself." Elder Lazarus nodded thoughtfully, his eyes studying me intently. "I see. And what do you know about this lost temple? Where is it located, and what challenges can you expect to face?" I hesitated, realizing that I didn't have much information about the temple or the quest. "I'm not entirely sure, Elder. My patron didn't provide me with many details. But I'm willing to learn and face whatever challenges come my way." Elder Lazarus leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "I see. Well, in that case, I'll need to grant you leave for your quest. But before I do, I have to warn you that the academy takes these things seriously. You'll need to be careful and prepared for what's ahead." He paused, collecting his thoughts before continuing. "I'll grant you leave, but I also want you to take this." He reached into a drawer and pulled out a small, intricately carved wooden box. "This contains a few...tools that might come in handy on your journey. Use them wisely." I took the box, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Elder Lazarus. "Thank you, Elder. I won't let you down." Elder Lazarus smiled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'm not worried about that, young one. I'm worried about the challenges you'll face on your journey. But I have faith in you. You have potential, and I'm eager to see what you'll do with it." With that, he nodded, and I knew that my quest had been officially sanctioned. I felt a surge of excitement and anticipation as I turned to leave, ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
