The Unseen Gift
Part 1
The scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the streets of Tokyo as Lily Shoki walked to her part-time job at a small café. She lived a relatively normal life, hidden from the world of curses and cursed energy that lurked in the shadows. Few people knew that she possessed a rare gift – an overflowing positive energy that allowed her to see cursed spirits. It was a phenomenon that had been observed in only a handful of people throughout history. Lily had learned to control her ability, to suppress it when she was around others. She didn't want to draw attention to herself, didn't want to be seen as different or, worse, a threat. So she kept her secret hidden, even from her friends and family. As she walked, Lily sensed that something was off. The air felt heavy, like a storm was brewing. She quickened her pace, her eyes scanning the crowded streets for any sign of trouble. Cursed spirits were always present, but they seemed to be gathering around her today, their malevolent auras like a dark cloud. Lily pushed open the door to the café, and the aroma of freshly baked pastries enveloped her. Her coworker, Yumi, smiled as she expertly crafted a latte. Lily took a deep breath, letting the normalcy of the café wash over her. Maybe today would be a quiet day, just a day of serving coffee and chatting with the regulars. But as the morning wore on, Lily began to feel a growing sense of unease. The cursed spirits outside seemed to be growing bolder, their auras seeping into the café like a chill. She tried to focus on the orders and the chatter of the customers, but her senses were on high alert. Just as the lunch rush was dying down, a weak cursed spirit materialized near the café entrance. It was a small, wispy creature with eyes that glowed like embers. Lily's positive energy reacted instinctively, repelling the cursed spirit with a gentle, shimmering light. The creature let out a faint screech as it dissipated into nothingness. Lily breathed a sigh of relief, her heart still racing. She glanced around the café, but no one had noticed anything out of the ordinary. Yumi asked her if she was okay, and Lily nodded, forcing a smile. As the afternoon passed, Lily couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to change. The cursed spirits seemed to be gathering, their presence growing stronger. She felt like a magnet, drawing them to her. And she had a feeling that she was on the cusp of discovering a truth about herself, about her place in this world of hidden terrors. As she locked up the café and headed back to her small apartment, Lily couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. She felt a shiver run down her spine, a sense of anticipation that was both exhilarating and terrifying. Little did she know that her world was about to be turned upside down, that she would soon be drawn into a conflict that would challenge everything she thought she knew about herself and the world of curses.
