Chapter 4: A Glimpse of Deception
Part 4
The sun was setting over the city, casting a warm orange glow over the towering skyscrapers as Rachel pulled into her driveway. She couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness as she thought about her meeting with Edward earlier that day. There was something about him that drew her in, something that made her want to know more. As she stepped out of her car, Rachel noticed a piece of paper tucked under her windshield wiper. She walked over to retrieve it, and her heart skipped a beat as she saw that it was a note, written in Edward's handwriting. "Meet me at the rooftop bar at 7 pm tonight," the note read. "I have a surprise for you." Rachel's curiosity was piqued, and she couldn't help but wonder what Edward had planned. She quickly changed into a dress and did her hair, feeling a sense of anticipation build up inside her. At 7 pm sharp, Rachel walked into the rooftop bar, scanning the crowded room for a glimpse of Edward. She spotted him standing by the bar, sipping on a drink and looking suave in a black suit. As she approached him, he turned and smiled, his eyes locking onto hers. "You look stunning," he said, taking her hand and leading her to the edge of the rooftop. The view was breathtaking, with the city lights twinkling like stars below. Edward handed her a glass of champagne, and they stood there in silence, taking in the view. As they sipped their drinks, Rachel noticed a figure standing across the rooftop, eyeing them with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. Edward followed her gaze and his expression changed, his eyes clouding over for a moment. "Who's that?" Rachel asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Edward's smile returned, but it seemed a little forced. "Just an acquaintance," he said. "Don't worry about him." But Rachel couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She excused herself to go to the restroom, and as she walked away, she noticed the mysterious figure again, this time standing closer, his eyes fixed intently on her. Rachel felt a shiver run down her spine, and she quickened her pace, anxious to get back to Edward's side. But as she turned to make her way back to the bar, she collided with a tall, muscular man, who caught her by the elbow to steady her. "Sorry about that," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I wasn't watching where I was going." Rachel smiled, feeling a little embarrassed, and thanked him. But as she turned to leave, she caught a glimpse of his face, and her heart skipped a beat. The man was tall and imposing, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. And then it hit her - she had seen him before, in a photograph, on Edward's desk. Rachel's mind was racing as she made her way back to Edward, her senses on high alert. What was going on? And who was this mysterious man?
