The Uncomfortable Truth
Part 4
Ashley's face flushed red and in that moment, she felt like it was easier to die than to face the embarrassment that was washing over her. "Oh God, I'm so sorry, what has he said?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape. Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Thompson exchanged a sympathetic glance before Mrs. Johnson spoke up. "Well, Ender basically shared with the class that he saw you and Avan kissing and hugging. He didn't go into details, but enough to spark the curiosity of the other children." Ashley's eyes widened in horror as she thought about what this could mean for Ender. She had been so careful to keep her relationship with Avan private, and now it seemed like the entire preschool was talking about it. She felt like she was going to throw up. Mr. Thompson leaned forward, his expression understanding. "Ashley, we need to talk about how we're going to handle this. As a parent, it's natural that Ender is curious, but we need to make sure he understands that what he saw is private and not something to be shared with his friends." Ashley took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. She knew that Mr. Thompson was right, but it was hard to think clearly when she was still reeling from embarrassment. "I understand," she said finally, her voice shaking slightly. "I'll talk to him tonight and make sure he understands." Mrs. Johnson nodded. "That's a good start. But we also need to consider the other children in the class. Some of them may be confused or have questions about what Ender saw. We need to be prepared to address those questions in a way that's age-appropriate and respectful of your relationship with Avan." Ashley's face grew even hotter as she thought about the potential fallout. She had never been one to shy away from difficult conversations, but this one felt different. This one felt like it could change everything. As she left the school office, Ashley couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to get a lot more complicated. She knew that she and Avan had to have a talk with Ender, and soon. But for now, she just wanted to crawl under a rock and hide. When she arrived home, Avan was in the living room, watching TV. He looked up as she walked in, concern etched on his face. "Hey, how was your meeting at school?" he asked, already knowing that something was wrong. Ashley took a deep breath before speaking. "It's Ender. He told his class about us." She couldn't bring herself to say more, the words catching in her throat. Avan's expression turned serious, and he set the remote control down. "What did he say exactly?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. Ashley shook her head, feeling a wave of emotion wash over her. "I don't know, but apparently, he told them that he saw us kissing and hugging. The whole preschool is talking about it now." Avan stood up and walked over to her, pulling her into his arms. "We'll get through this, Ashley. We'll talk to Ender and make sure he understands. And we'll figure out a way to handle the rest." Ashley leaned into him, feeling a sense of gratitude for his support. But as they stood there, she couldn't shake the feeling that their lives were about to change in ways they couldn't even imagine.
