Unsettling Encounters
Part 11
Pam couldn't shake off the image of John and Emily embracing in the hallway. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut, and her mind was reeling with questions and doubts. As she walked back into the hospital, she tried to compose herself, but her eyes were still brimming with tears. Just then, John appeared beside her, concern etched on his face. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle. Pam hesitated, unsure if she wanted to talk to him about this. But something about his expression made her open up. "I saw you and Emily in the hallway," she said, her voice trembling. John's face fell, and he looked like he'd been caught off guard. He opened his mouth to respond, but before he could say anything, Doug appeared out of nowhere, his eyes flashing with protectiveness. "Back off, John," Doug said, his voice low and firm. "This doesn't concern you." John looked taken aback by Doug's sudden intervention, but he didn't back down. "Hey, I was just trying to talk to her," he said, his voice rising. Mark, who had been watching the scene unfold, stepped in, his voice calm and authoritative. "Hey, let's all just calm down, okay? This isn't the time or place for this conversation." The tension between the three of them was palpable, and Pam felt like she was about to explode. She turned and walked away, not wanting to deal with this anymore. Doug fell into step beside her, his eyes never leaving her face. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle. Pam nodded, still feeling a little shaken. She didn't know what to say or how to process her emotions. All she knew was that she needed to get out of there, away from John and Emily and the awkwardness that was suffocating her. As they walked, Doug didn't say anything, just let her be. Pam appreciated the silence, needed it to gather her thoughts and calm down. She wasn't sure what was going on with John and Emily, but she knew she needed to talk to him about it eventually. For now, she was just grateful to have Doug by her side, his presence a comforting reminder that she wasn't alone.
