Moonlit Serenade
Part 12
The cool night air enveloped them as they walked side by side, the only sound being the soft crunch of gravel beneath their feet. They said nothing, but the quiet was peaceful, a stark contrast to the turmoil that had been brewing inside Mitsuba for so long. Kou's presence was calming, and Mitsuba felt his anxiety slowly ebb away with each step. As they turned onto the beach road, the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore grew louder, and Mitsuba's heart swelled with emotion. He had always loved the beach, the way the sand felt between his toes, the smell of saltwater and seaweed. But tonight, it felt different, it felt like a journey of redemption. The beach was deserted, the only light coming from the moon overhead, casting a silver glow over the waves. They walked hand in hand, their footsteps sinking into the sand as they made their way down the beach. The water lapped at their feet, and Mitsuba felt a sense of calm wash over him. After a while, they stopped walking, and Mitsuba plopped down onto the sand, his back against the cool grains. Kou sat down beside him, and they sat there in silence, watching the waves roll in. The moon was high in the sky, casting a path of light across the water, and Mitsuba felt a sense of peace settle over him. He glanced over at Kou, who was staring out at the sea, his eyes lost in thought. Mitsuba's heart swelled with love and gratitude for this person, who had been patient and understanding, even when Mitsuba had pushed him away. He reached out and took Kou's hand, his fingers intertwining with Kou's. The waves continued to roll in, a soothing melody that seemed to wash away all Mitsuba's worries and fears. He closed his eyes, feeling the sand beneath him, the cool night air on his skin, and the warmth of Kou's hand in his. In this moment, everything felt right with the world.
