**Chapter 7: Shadows in the Servants' Hall**

Part 7

As I made my way through the dimly lit corridors, I knew I had to blend in if I was going to move freely without arousing suspicion. I had spotted a few servants hurrying about, their uniforms a stark contrast to the finery of the nobles. I needed to find a way to join their ranks, at least for a little while. I turned a corner and spotted a door that looked like it led to a storage room or a servants' quarters. I pushed it open, finding myself in a cramped, dimly lit room filled with shelves of linens, cleaning supplies, and other sundries. A rack of servant uniforms hung on one wall, and I quickly scanned them to find one that fit. I spotted a uniform that looked like it might be my size and quickly changed into it, smoothing out the wrinkles and adjusting the cap to sit properly on my head. I checked myself in a small mirror that hung on the wall, barely recognizing the person staring back at me. The uniform was a bit worn and faded, but it would have to do. I made my way out of the storage room, trying to adopt a subservient air as I moved through the corridors. The servants I passed nodded or curtsied, but they didn't seem to give me a second glance. I was just another face in the crowd, and I was grateful for it. As I walked, I tried to get my bearings. The castle was a maze, and I needed to find a way to navigate it without getting lost. I spotted a large wooden board on the wall, with a diagram of the castle's layout etched onto it. I studied it quickly, committing the layout to memory. With my newfound knowledge, I set off towards the east wing, where I had heard that the castle's kitchens were located. Maybe I could find some information about Elara and Mari there. I moved quickly, trying to keep up the pace of the other servants as they hurried about their duties. As I walked, I caught snippets of conversation from the people I passed. They were all talking about the upcoming ball, and the preparations that were underway. I listened intently, trying to pick up any information that might be useful. But my ears perked up as I heard a name mentioned in passing - "Elara". My heart skipped a beat as I slowed my pace, trying not to draw attention to myself. I leaned in, trying to hear more. "...seen her in the east tower," a voice said, barely above a whisper. "She's been kept prisoner there for weeks." My heart racing, I continued on my way, trying to process the information I had just heard. The east tower - that was where I needed to go. But first, I had to find out more about the layout of the tower, and how to get there without being caught.
