A Newfound Feeling

Part 13

The warm sunlight streaming through the windows gently roused Mario and Luigi from their slumber. They stretched their arms and yawned, shaking off the remnants of sleep. After a quick wash with cold water, they dressed in their usual overalls and headed to the kitchen for breakfast. The aroma of freshly baked bread and sizzling bacon filled the air, making their stomachs growl with anticipation. Toadette, their friend who often helped with household chores, had prepared a hearty meal for them. They sat down at the table, and Mario poured himself a cup of steaming hot coffee, while Luigi dug into a plate of crispy bacon and eggs. As they began to eat, Mario couldn't shake off the lingering feeling from the previous night. He felt a little flustered, his mind drifting back to Peach's kind smile and gentle laughter. Luigi noticed his brother's distraction and set down his fork. "Hey, Mario, what's wrong?" Luigi asked, concern etched on his face. "You seem a bit...off." Mario hesitated, unsure how to share his feelings with his brother. "I...I don't know, Luigi. I just can't stop thinking about Peach," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Luigi's expression changed from concern to amusement. "Oh, oh, oh! I think I see!" he exclaimed, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Our Mario has a crush!" Mario's face turned bright red as he looked around the kitchen, hoping no one had overheard Luigi's remark. "Shh, Luigi! Not so loud!" he whispered, mortified. Luigi chuckled, clearly enjoying his brother's embarrassment. "Don't worry, bro, your secret's safe with me," he said, winking. "But seriously, what's going on? You're not sure how you feel about Peach?" Mario shook his head, feeling a bit overwhelmed. "I don't know what to do, Luigi. I've always thought of her as just a friend, but last night...I don't know, it felt different." Luigi leaned in, his expression turning serious. "Listen, Mario, it's not a bad thing to have feelings for someone. It means you're growing, and you're capable of loving and caring for others." Mario looked at his brother, seeking guidance. "But what if it's not reciprocated?" he asked, his voice laced with uncertainty. Luigi placed a reassuring hand on Mario's shoulder. "That's a risk we all take when we open ourselves up to others. But what's important is that you're honest with yourself and with Peach. If you do decide to tell her how you feel, be prepared for any outcome. And if it's not reciprocated, we'll be here for you, bro." Mario nodded, feeling a bit better after talking to Luigi. He realized that he had his brother's support, and that together, they could face whatever came their way. As they finished their breakfast, Mario felt a sense of determination wash over him. He wasn't sure what the future held, but he was ready to take the first step, with Luigi by his side.
